As a liberal, I cringe whenever I think of that self-congratulatory and smug echo chamber of a show (with the exception of Waterston and Fonda; I would have watched the whole series if it was just their characters arguing in the boardroom).

I liked the Newsroom and Jeff Daniels’ role in it. Sure, it was Aaron Sorkin bloviating for an hour a few times a year, but it was still entertaining IMO.

The Newsroom was nothing more than a wankfest for people who like to wank to heroic portrayals of journalist. And by god, I am one of them. Not the best TV in the world, but pleasing for what it was.

Tried watching, but after 25ish years in a real newsroom it felt childishly foreign, ‘cause it was.

Will McAvoy was 25 hours worth of the most obvious Internet Concern Troller. “I’m a devout Republican, but...”

It’s like when you see a comment around here that starts “I voted for Obama, but...” RED FLAG!!

I get this same feeling when I go back and watch episodes of The West Wing, which had its moments but in retrospect nearly drowns in its own swamp of namby-pamby self-congratulatory centrism. I guess that’s just Sorkin overall, but it somehow got worse after he left the show.

I question the judgement of anyone who thought that making Dumb And Dumber Too ‘only’ 20 years after the original was a good idea.

But Dumb And Dumber Too was still a much better idea than The Newsroom.

Especially since he really didn’t the money. The Full House residuals are still coming in, and he had plenty of work aside from that.

This is not the first time Daniels has portrayed a character based on Trump.

Eh, I find it hard to be affected by a fictional character’s pompous, bloviating wankery when there are so many real-world examples to choose from (many found in any Gawker comment section related to the election).

But, hey, gotta watch out for those pesky centrists. This is a battle between TRUE SCOTSMEN(TM)! Still waiting for them to bust out the claymores.

I thought it was an interesting interview.

Halperin: So Mr. McAvoy, what do you think of Hillary’s chances of beating Mr. Trump?

        GIF

Halperin: Intersting. And do you think she can beat Trump if she moves to his right on the Muslim issue?

I’m okay with Bills of Attainder if we can criminalize Aaron Sorkin.
