    BEAUTY THREAD!

    Remember to star.

Okay, nothing can beat that brooch. There is not enough Johnny Weir on TV.

Maybe this week’s theme, if you want one, is good and bad skin or hair care we learned from our mothers.

      YAY MAKEUP THREAD WOO.

I ordered from Colourpop during their flash sale, but haven’t rec’d yet so no new products.

But my nails continue to be LONG AS HELL. Except for my right ring finger, which I whacked into a door frame or something last week, and then yesterday I tore my right pinky nearly in half while trying to corral ‘n’ dry the freshly bathed dog (who then, while I was in the bathroom trying to glue the nail back together, shat on the kitchen floor).

I caved and bought some stuff from TheBalm’s flash sale the other day.

My mom is very fair so she is big on sunscreen, which is a good thing to promote.

Hi Jez friends! Happy SNS! This is your Brag Thread. Any grand accomplishments, big or small, you want to brag about but haven’t yet found an acceptable outlet in which to do so? My brag: I got my cat eyeliner perfect today.... that’s it. It hasn’t been an eventful week here. Hopefully you all have better brags than I do!

Hey Jezzies! Watcha drinking? I have a Basil Mint Hard Cider, which is perfect for the hot weather. I’m doing this post because I miss MindyMoo’s weekly shoutout, and while I don’t have CindyMoo’s excellent musical taste, i’m sharing a music video that always perks up my day.

My workload is reduced to practically nothing so i’m on the hunt for new clients - working with small businesses does have it’s drawbacks. How’s everyone’s week been?

Smartwater and real, made with sugar Dr. Pepper in a bottle. I’m at work.

I have Third Eye Blind’s Semi-charmed Life stuck in my head this week. It’s weird, because one of my ex’s problems was a meth addiction, but there’s something about the song that has me singing and bopping along whenever it plays.

I’m going to my dad’s girlfriend’s 60th birthday party. This means socializing with a large group of people. So wine. Lots of it. Probably pinot grigio.

Ha, that is so Johnny. And, moving on:

    FOOD THREAD!

So, awesomely, I recently found a service that delivers fresh local dairy and eggs from pasture-raised animals, and organically grown produce, along with a few bakery/pantry items and whatnot, to one’s door in my area. It’s basically an online farmer’s market. This means that I am eating a lot more delicious, super-fresh fruits and vegetables! It’s great because, with chronic fatigue, if I go shopping for this stuff then by the time I get home I’m too tired to cook it. Would be good for super-busy people too. Oh and bonus, I’ve lost eight pounds!

Extra bonus: They also deliver coffee that was roasted that day. I’d been thinking about starting to roast it myself, but okay then! No need. This stuff is incredible.

Everything they bring is gorgeous, and since the growing season starts early here, a lot of the produce is also HUGE. So it goes a long way! I thought I’d never go through all the tomatoes they bring (they say one pound but it’s more like three), but they’re so incredibly good they don’t even last out the week.

Lately I’ve made spicy ratatouille, butter-lemon scallops with garlicky sautéed spinach, both of those served on jasmine basmati rice, and a ton of Greek salads and delicious, colorful veggie-and-cheese sandwiches.

Up next week: caprese salad with balsamic vinegar and crusty rolls; potato salad with mustard and fresh dill and/or chives; a pasta sauce of my own design made with local wild mushrooms, sour cream, and white wine; and, as soon as I’ve finally bought a blender (will do this coming week!), fresh classic basil-pine-nut pesto.

What are some of your favorite spring recipes?

The weekend at last. I want to get some burgers and fries and onion rings, but I don’t want to walk in the rain to get it.

Jezzies! I had a date last weekend that I thought went really well! But he never called :( And I’m bummed. Is this how dating works now? I have been out of the game for a while (and was barely ever truly in it, to be honest) and this just sucks.

Guy asked me while on the date if I would want to go out again, I said yes. It was a very easy going date— the conversation flowed without effort, which was nice. At the end, he kissed me on the cheek and I got in a waiting cab. In retrospect, maybe I didn’t give him enough signals that I was interested? Demonstrating interest does not come naturally to me, so I always feel incredibly awkward doing the whole casual touching and flirting thing. Now that it has been a full week, should I just let it go? Assume he’s not interested? Text him? UGH no wonder people complain about the dating world! The endless questions and wondering are just awful!

I hope y’all are having a good weekend. Me, my single butt, and a pint of halo top ice cream (SO GOOD) are settling in for what is looking to be a very solid saturday night.

So the dude is probably ghosting you, for sure, but it also seems like you haven’t contacted him at all since? Did you text him, small talk, chat online, or anything like that?

There’s a genuine possibility that he took your silence to mean that you weren’t interested, rather than that you were waiting for him to contact you.

While it’s probably more likely than not that the dude is a ghosting buttface, I think it can’t hurt to just reach out with a casual “Hey, I really had a great time last week, want to maybe grab a bite to eat tomorrow?” If he doesn't respond, that's all you need to know. If he does, maybe he's just the same as you and bad at following up!

You said yes when he asked. I don’t think it is that he thought that you didn’t demonstrate interest. I hope he calls but I don’t have a good feeling about this one :(. Good luck!

I always find that if someone gives you an either/or ultimatum then the best thing to do is choose the other person. The one that isn’t putting constraints on who you get to hang out with.

My ex-husband wanted to stop me seeing all male friends. I did to appease him. He fucked off with a ho-worker. And left me with hardly any friends.

The last time I spoke to one of my exes was when I rang him a few days before his wedding to wish him luck. His then fiancee picked up the phone and when he came on the line he said “it really makes things difficult for me when you ring”. I was like “you’re MARRYING her and still she feels threatened by me; you have a problem on your hands there”. And he was all like “I know, I know”. I said something along the lines of “you’re pathetic, be happy” and that was the last time we spoke. It made me mad because we had been best friends before we started sleeping together and we had spent every weekend together for nearly three years and had been so, so, so close. But bottom line, if someone doesn’t stand up for you or for your time together, walk away. Secondly, as my mother told me at the time, no one has the right to tell you who to see or not see even if you are married; there is nothing in any wedding vow about control or obligation. See who you want to see and don’t be a dick and expect someone to see only who you want them to see. That’s not cool.

We officially have a screech owl nesting in our pine trees! So freaking cool. S/he has apparently agreed to a detente with our red-tailed hawk who nests in our sugar maple.

I love spring/early summer in the Midwest! Let’s do an outdoor awesomeness thread!

This week I was riding by the pond at the barn and saw a great blue heron, a little green heron, and a kingfisher. The kingfisher dove into the water right next to us and spooked my horse but how could I be mad? Also, saw bb killdeer this morning and holy moley are they cute. Unlike most baby birds that are just monochrome fluff, they have the same markings as adults but tiny! It made me smile.

Great Blue Herons are my FAVORITE BIRD!! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a little green heron, how cool!! I had no idea about killdeer, that is darling!

I have a constellation of red winged blackbirds, grackles and european starlings outside my office window and I am simultaneously annoyed by the screeching and in awe that they don’t kill each other.

To help decompress from dealing with my aunt’s illness, I went to see the new Captain American with my dad. It did the trick. We both enjoyed it way better than Batman v Superman. It still had its sad moments because it’s like watching family fight.

We also got Mexican to eat. It was very good.

I went to see Captain America today too. There should be movie showings for adults where they turn the damn volume down, I love movies, but always leave the theater with a headache. I liked Captain America, especially Paul Rudd.

My dad died on Tuesday. It’s weird even typing the words. The past few years our relationship was strained, as he was very ill and this brought out the worst aspects of his personality (severely co-dependent, narcissistic, selfish). But as time passes I remember more and more of who he was before all this, and I miss him. I don’t know that I wish I did anything different in the past few years, as I know I had to pull away to protect myself, but it still hurts that we lost those years.

    I miss my dad, y’all.
