    Hey Jezebel: It’s going to be a terrible Mother’s Day weekend for tens of thousands of Canadians. It would be great if you featured a story on the Fort McMurray fire. Canada is experiencing its largest natural disaster and its largest human evacuation in its recorded history (88,000 people). I’m not seeing much American news about it - Albertans need everyone’s help. Please feature something.

      Holy poop! That’s terrifying and terrible. And as per usual, the U.S. news cycle is too distracted by discussions of taco salads and superdelegates to even notice. We suck at being neighbors. :(

      Ugh, I don’t know why - this is massive, massive news. Albertans could use donations from our southern neighbours (donate to the Canadian Red Cross). I’m sorry, but it just plays into the stereotype of Americans being self-centred, which sucks. You can youtube all the terrifying footage. As you can see, the order to evacuate came very very late because the fire just changed direction all of a sudden and hit the town. Families were literally driving through fire. At least three Syrian refugee families were there and evacuated - probably a bad reminder for them. Many horses, farm animals and dogs and cats were left at home because the order to evacuate was so sudden, people weren’t allowed home to get anything or anyone - no access, and only one highway in and out of the town (forrest all around). Just horrible. The worst.
