This is a road map to victory for him. Because no one can get free press like him (and it’s our fault because even those of us who hate this piece of shit tune in to see what he’ll say or do next), he’ll simply distract everyone with this kind of nonsense for the next few months. And since both he and Hillary are loathed by the voters, turnout will be the lowest in a hundred years, and any Republican can win in a low turnout election, even this clown.

It’s because the all mighty dollar is more important than anything. That includes the networks and the blogs, especially this one.

Gawker will keep writing Trump articles to get people riled up, commenting, replying, getting into internet beefs, hitting refresh. Gets more clicks, more views, cash in.

Add in minority voter suppression in red states.

And you could get analysis from no fewer than 10 experts across the various 24-hour news outlets.

Yeah, Trump is a buffoon, but I find it hard to hate him. He’s just exploiting a society that’s had its lubed, thirsty ass in the air for some time now.

    DAMN do I hate us.

The 538 story yesterday about how Hillary and Donald have the lowest approval ratings of any party nominees in forever had me hating us so fucking hard yesterday. Everybody hates these fucks but it seems they are all we have. Vomit.

Well, to be fair to the country, he’s really only had the hardcore support of a fairly narrow slice of the electorate. By November, he may have a little more, but ultimately a fairly large chunk of whatever share of the vote he gets in November will be from people who would probably vote for Charles Manson over Hillary Clinton.

2/10, she tried way too hard. Winner would be whoever it was that said “damn dude, even your Mexican food has a wall around it.” That's lulz worthy!

Well, a guy one election away from being “the leader of the free world” spent his time hawking a fucking taco bowl so, yeah, I stared at it pretty incredulously too.

Yeah, I was just about to ask...

Collective hours of people’s lives were lost to this taco bowl.

        Does that include this article?

I’d nod my head resignedly if media outlets would OWN it.

Isn’t this just the inevitable endgame of ‘Reality TV America’? Our culture has, after all, spent enormous time and energy elevating many of the country’s most ignorant and un-self-aware inhabitants to the level of celebrities and role models. Long immersion in the abyssal lives of these nonentities produced a strange outcome, however: the abyss looked back; and now the Abyss’s candidate is the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.

Trump’s public persona slots very comfortably into brains long exposed to “drama,” “beefs,” and “feuds” in their daily entertainment. His “genius” is that he has been able to apply the kind of sensibility that powers reality television and WWE wrestling to the political arena. He has made politics exciting for many people who previously had no interest in it. Before Trump, politics was endless dull stump speeches and mealy-mouthed promises made by gray people you wouldn’t want to buy a car from. Now, it’s “just like TV!” Exciting! Dramatic! Uncensored! Real!!!

I don’t think anyone should underestimate Trump’s chances.

I concur. I imagine he’ll appoint Kris Kardashian Jenner as White House Press secretary, and fill his cabinet with an assortment of reality stars. Rather than the decline of an empire, the good ole US of A will go out in one big supernova (which will make for great reality television, I hope Europe will be filming it all live from their satellites).

Since more than half of all journalism now is just reporting on rumors/things that were said on FB and Twitter, this is not surprising.
