    Let’s break down the GOP’s “values and principles,” shall we?

    1. Limited government: Very limited when it comes to helping the poor, the disadvantaged, the disabled and the disenfranchised. Strangely unlimited when it comes to defense spending, enabling crony capitalism, and legislating the morality of anyone of whom they don’t approve.
    2. The proper role of the executive: Very narrowly defined, if the specific executive in question happens to be a Democrat (doubly-so if black). If the executive is Republican and white/male? “Unitary Executive,” baby!
    3. Adherence to the Constitution: A sacred and powerful document, which must be adhered to strictly, with no wiggle-room, in the case of Democratic leadership. “A goddamn piece of paper” if the GOP are in charge.

    Unify this, Eddie Munster.

      I know you sort of touched on it in #1 but don’t forget how unlimited the government is when it comes to passing shit like “Right to Work” to make sure employees, in both the public and private sectors, have a much harder time winning things like better wages, benefits and working conditions so that the GOP doesn’t have to raise taxes on the rich and cut into corporate profit margins.

    So, in the same sentence Ryan wants to undercut Trump and at the same time demand his fealty? What a joke. Trump is an asshole, but Ryan is just as bad for demanding loyalty before being willing to give it. The truth is that Ryan and his colleagues sailed to power on the wave of people like Trump (loud, ignorant bigots) and now they're trying to find a way to disavow Trump without acknowledging that they created him.

      Except that Ryan holds an elected position as the highest ranking member of the party. On top if that, he will preside over the Convention. Despite what the Trump supporters probably think, the party platform (and VP) are ultimately entirely up to the delegates. And on those votes they aren’t bound to anyone.

      Honestly Ryan is trying hard to steer the GOP away from Trump’s core, towards a more open platform. The younger GOP Establishment is ready to adopt a “laissez faire” attitude towards social issues like gay marriage.

      Of the myriad of things I hate about conservative politicians, when they say the phrase “Limited Government” it drives me to the point where I want to smash them in the face with a tube sock full of wood screws.

      In the last 6 years, especially in state legislatures, conservatives have used the power of government to completely destroy people and groups that they don’t politically or philosophy agree with.

      Their claim of believing in the principle of limited government is, even by the whale shit level of politics, so fucking bogus that it borders on the criminal.

        In Wisconsin the GOP used its power to destroy all their state rivals. Destroyed the commerce department and replaced it with a private public group that the governor was in charge of and shocker, basically gave state money as “loans” to his donors that they never paid back or wouldn’t be able. I think the agency because it had no oversight squandered millions until people started investigating. They went after the (created by old members of the GOP hilariously enough) non partisan election agency to be replaced with again appointees. Went after public unions (except police and firefighters, surprise surprise, the two that agreed to endorse and support the GOP for protection) after he said he had no interest in doing so. Spent millions on a secret law firm to Gerrymander the state, only to be discovered they’d done this after being sued. Cost the state 50 some million dollars in broken contracts with rail companies and subsequent law suits. Went for right to work legislation though specifically again said he had no interest in it in two campaigns.....

        I find it hilarious that so many of our State GOP members hate government, when so many of them have almost exclusively worked for the government..... Our governor recently said he’ll run again after a laughably bad presidential run and has no hopes for a job. He's only ever worked for the government, was kicked out college for cheating and been collecting the checks from the citizens of Wisconsin ever since.....
