Just a small speedbump on the road to EGOT, I’m sure!

ETA: And she’s right. But probably being paid accordingly...

But what does that even mean? Her name is bigger than her talent?

And how does that explain that she was snubbed?

She will earn her EGOT, I have no doubt. The universe has to give Kate Winslet one first, though.

Now that’s the lullaby of Broadway!

Oh my god, that song is going to be stuck in my head for days. Thanks, Bobby!

It’s not a snub. They can’t nominate everyone and Danielle Brooks and Cynthia Erivo were far superior. In addition to Julliard grad Danielle Brooks being generally perfect.

The Tonys, just like Broadway, would LOVE to have big recognizable names nominated. To garner more attention. They don’t snub celebrities (and Brooks’ previous fame isn’t as a Broadway actress.)

      This, and you. So correct.

Which nominated actress should have been left off to make room for this person who was “snubbed”? The article also says Variety agreed it was a snub. I checked Variety’s article and it says Jennifer Hudson’s performance earned “generally appreciative notices from the critics”. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

I just realized Danielle Brooks is only 26 and my mind is BLOWN. She is so freaking talented, I cannot wait to see where her career takes her.

I only saw that clip of them covering Purple Rain. It was obvious to me that the real talent of the show was the woman that played Celie. She totally overshadowed Jennifer Hudson.

Did that lady get a nomination? Forgive me for blanking on her name.

Cynthia Erivo. And yes, I believe she got the nod for lead actress in a musical.

Cynthia Erivo getting a nomination means that all is well in the world. I have a feeling that she’s headed for way bigger things.

Thank you for answering my question.

I think it’s evident to anyone who watched the video of the cast singing Purple Rain after Prince passed that Cynthia Erivo is the exceptional talent in that show. And she was nominated for her work.

I also appreciate the fact that Cynthia Erivo is the go-to Broadway actress to play characters originated on film by Whoopi Goldberg.

Nobody is saying that she’s not talented. Honestly, it’s a difficult year to earn nominations because of Hamilton.

I don’t think it was really Hamilton’s fault she didn’t get nominated. There are only 3 decent sized female roles in the show and, of the two non-leading roles, only one of them was really large enough to compete for Best Featured Actress (which is like the Best Supporting Actress category).

So basically, she now is the Beyonce in Dream Girls, while Cynthia Erivo is the Jennifer Hudson?

      At least she knows.

      I give her credit.

And, frankly, the show will do well with or without a Tony. So...whatever...

The show was nominated for a Tony. As were two of her costars (both of whom deserved it). The show isn’t hurting for noms.

And I would be surprised if it didn’t win Best Revival of a Musical.

Yeah, I’m not sure its a snub so much as she was outperformed by costars in a very crowded field. Danielle Brooks (Tastee OITNB) was nominated in the category that she would have submitted in.

The fact that it then took her 3 hours to congratulate her two castmates and director who were nominated bugged the hell out of me. The original post comes across as bad sportsmanship, but whatever. It probably wouldn’t have bothered me much and I would have chalked it up to being human. To then not congratulate people you spent months with though... that’s just rude.

Woah, woah, woah. What’s this about fucking over Oprah? What in the hell happened? And don’t you generally disappear, only to turn up 6 months later working in a bodega in Chile if you pull a stunt against Oprah?

There’s something missing here for us laypeople. Does she feel like the show’s producers didn’t push for her to get an Emmy? Otherwise, I don’t see how the snub and the being “used” are connected.
