Interracial gay relationshiper here. I forget I’m in an interracial relationship 99% of the time. Am I alone in this? Also, I have a few dozen button-down shirts from Old Navy, for casual workdays. Old Navy has become better than their strict sibling, Banana Republic.

Only thing that bothers me is it’s obviously a black mom and black son — could they not find a biracial model?

Who the hell even uses miscegenation anymore?

Can’t we have a nice ad with a cute interracial couple trying to sell us stuff without racists descending on it like locusts? I guess not.

That people are time travelling from sometime early in the 20th or possibly 19th or 18th century and have figured out how to use twitter is truly the big news here.

Wow. People are fucking horrible and my recent ST:TNG glut-watching has me wondering if we’re caught in some kind of time loop that sent our collective consciousness back to the 1950s.

Also, off topic : Is anyone else having KINJAAAAA issues? Specifically, I was trying to check the beauty thread in SNS, and even when you expand the thread, it cuts off at about 9:53pm. Yet I *know* that there are comments after that, because some of them are mine. At one point, after scrolling to the end of a lonnnnng thread, there’d be yet another “show more comments” arrow button, but not now. Temporary glitch? Mac issue? I tried in two diff browsers, same result.

Weird, because I’m pretty sure there’ve been just as many comments in previous SNS beauty threads, but they didn’t cut off like this. BOOOO, KINJA.

I learned a new word today: miscegenation. Usually I feel smarter after learning a new word. Not today.

Laura Silverman also tweeted that these folks are probably just mad because they spent their last $5 on that word.

Wow, watching tv pays off for once. That word was coined during the 1864 election by the democrats to say that the civil war wasn’t about keeping the Union together but that it was about miscegenation - the mingling of the races.

I want to ask all those racist twits who are twittering when they are from, not where they are from, but when because they must have missed the memo that it’s 2016!

I know, I’m not naive enough to think this shit didn’t happen, but still, this is just wicked fucking ridiculous.

Also, do these people not work? Do they not have jobs that hold them to a certain sort of standard even off the clock? I am still a licensed as a preschool teacher and I refused to allow a friend to take a photo of me sitting on a cardboard cutout of Deadpool’s lap at the movie theatre with the intention of posting it to Facebook. Nope, someone will see that and get offended because in some pearl clutchers eyes I will suddenly become a harlot who is unfit to teach young children, no thanks not worth the trouble.

How do these people not worry that someone of importance like a boss might see their racist rants and decide they are not fit to work for them?

I’ve thought about this a lot, too. And I actually think people set up fake accounts/profiles just to post this kind of hateful shit. Which not only makes them shitty people, but cowardly shits as well.

Funny how things like Twitter are making more white people aware that yes, racism still exists, and no, racism hasn’t gone away. Bigots are alive and well in 2016! This should surprise no one.

I think this idea graced my brain once before but you just landed it. I was wondering why everyone seems more racist than 15 years ago. It’s fucking social media. I have been sheltered in the Bay Area. Now we can all witness how fucking backwards ppl are without traveling. Smdh

I have been sheltered in the Bay Area.

...sheltered from it if you are white. People of color, however, experience racism in the Bay Area all the time, every day. Like W. Kamau Bell at the Elmwood Cafe in Berkeley, or Rasheed Albashari and his friends at Lake Merritt last December, when a white woman yelled Islamophobic slurs at them and threw coffee on them.

Racism is often invisible to white people, because it’s not directed at white people. But I live in the Bay Area, and I’ve certainly had white friends (even liberal white friends!) say things to me that are most definitely racist, whether it’s repeating stereotypes, “edgy” racist jokes, mocking someone’s accent, or complaining about how “all of the focus on people of color here is turning into racism against white people.” Yep, somebody actually said that to me (and she started crying when I very gently started to explain why that whole sentence was problematic, etc. etc.). And I’m committed to calling it out every time, which is tiring, but not as tiring as if I was a black woman having to listen to this shit and have racism in my face every day, for example, and then white people expecting me to explain things to them nicely, or just let it go because they’re good people after all and oh don’t start crying now....

yeah. i had this moment of insanity this past summer. i found great white jeans at the thrift and thought “my kid is 7, i can wear these! he won’t get them filthy!” yes. I put them on my body, walked from bathroom to door to leave with DS and DH, and guess what? Somehow, I had a child-handprint on my thigh in that time. And it stained.
