Ok, I’m gonna sound like a typical smarmy over educated liberal here but....shit like this is why people think of the Republican Party as “the stupid people party”. It’s also why that saying “if you want to see what life was like 25 years ago go to the south” is becoming so prevalent and incredibly true. I know that sounds shitty of me but I’m just so sick of this white Christian prude outrage with no basis in any reality whatsoever.

You must have read that Vox article. I mostly disagree with the premise, sometimes it’s not being pretentious or “smug,” Republicans really are just that stupid.

Also, if you’re a cis woman who gets all pissy about the fact that so many trans women (in your minds) embrace “stereotypical femininity”

THIS IS WHY WE DO IT. This is a CIS WOMAN getting harassed and thrown out of the bathroom for simply not girling it up to society’s satisfaction. She doesn’t even have to worry about covering stubble with foundation or avoiding talking for fear of her voice outing her. She gets to use her voice to defend herself, while ours are used against us.

So the next time you feel the need to lecture trans women about how our makeup and high heels are ruining your stupid fucking genderless utopia that’s TOTALLY gonna ever happen one day, kindly shut the fuck up.

I hear you. I know it’s not a safe world to be different.

And I think there should be room for transgals to consider what it feels like for the rest of us when the “slutty” phase happens. All of us are girls and all of us are different, some of us are slutty and that’s great! And it feels weird when it seems like that one dimensional presentation is what it is to be a woman to some people.

Some of it’s practical, but some of it’s also about the fact that a lot of us don’t get to really figure ourselves out during our teenage years, because we have to hide who we are. Unless you’re fortunate enough to transition in your teens/early twenties when “finding yourself” and being awkward are still okay to do, we have to sort all of this out at an age when everyone else has already has sorted it out a great deal. The kind of femininity I expressed when I first came out was substantially different than the femininity I express now, but I was lucky enough to start figuring it out when I was in college, when it’s still acceptable to be a hot mess.

Even if it wasn’t a bar, I don’t know if my four year old daughter would be allowed in. She has a pixie cut and likes to wear jeans and “boys” hoodies. This shit really freaks me out.

I’ve seen mom’s bring young boys with them into the “women’s” room and I’m sure the same happens with men and young girls...I didn’t even think about what happens when a parent is with a young child who needs to go to the bathroom. How will that be handled? Why is this a thing that fucking matters considering most people were able to urinate in peace before? Why the fuck are we wasting police presence/public resources on the dumbest goddamn thing in the world? Aaaah

Back home, when the queue was too long in women’s’ bathrooms, i used to go over at the mens. Suddenly, I feel very revolutionary.... Seriously, what is the deal with the bathroom in this country?

I’ve rarely seen a place so obsessed by where people pee, and try pooping super discreetly.

I’ve done that at concerts, and other things, along with a bunch of my friends. No one cared.

Because when you have had several beers and sodas, you do not care where you pee because it’s better then peeing in your pants

Huh. I hadn’t thought about whether these bathroom bills were also stealth attempts to harass gays, lesbians, and bisexuals before. This must be part of that new educational series, The More You Didn’t Want To Know.

I am a straight, cis-female with severe polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which has the effect of giving me a full face of dark facial hair. I am also unfortunate enough to live in NC. On the way to get my face waxed 2 weeks ago, I stopped in a DSW to look at shoes for my upcoming wedding (to a man, which I am not). While in the fancy shoe section, an elderly pearl-clutcher refused to stop staring at me as I picked up a few styles. As I got closer, I realized she was mumbling under her breath about “damn trannies” and “this is why we need HB2 (the new bathroom bill)“. I was absolutely mortified and just left before I broke down in tears.

I am a tall, athletic female. I have broad shoulders. When I had short hair, I used to refer to it as my “hey, mister, you can’t go in that washroom” haircut. There is a certain type of woman who loves to say that line. It is the same type of woman who rushes out of her house when you park in front of it to remind you that you have to park 1.5 meters from the curb and has all the bylaws printed out in hopes that she’ll have a chance to get you towed. I can guarantee you that behind those cops is a woman named Debbie or Janet or Judy who just haaates to bother the police but, well, she’s feeling a little uncomfortable and...

Fucking Debbie. She’s been wearing matching cardigan sets since kindergarten. She ran for student council president every year and never got elected. She thinks that any color of nail polish on your toes is slutty-even beige. Dolores Umbridge is her role model.

      Fucking Debbie.
