Well, the big difference is that this time it was done by Assad, nobody will be disciplined, he won't investigate, and he'll go back to killing civilians the next day without any hesitation.

Sadly, I think us blowing up the MSF hospital in Afghanistan, and more or less encouraging the world to shrug about it, has made it easier for Assad to get away with this.

There is nothing anyone can do to make it easier for Assad to get away with things, do you forget that he already got away with attacking civilians with chemical agents? Bombing a hospital is somethin he’d do without even blinking.

If this happened in America the NRA would argue that hospitals need to be made “open carry” zones for shoulder launched surface to air missiles.

It wasn’t the US, and it would make no sense to assume it was.

The very first reports noted Russian warplanes overhead; e.g.:

This was done by Russian planes serving the Assad regime, hence Mousa Alomar calling it الإرهاب الروسي الأسدي , ‘Russian Assadist terrorism.’

      LOLololll.

Yes, its possible, even likely. I was referring, of course, to the fact that the US has also done the same thing. Plus, its a warzone, all sorts of planes are flying all over the place. Its still possible it was a US strike.

Next will they have a tank spin donuts on the site to destroy evidence, or is that just an American thing?

Ah yes, the “WutaboutAmerica” comment that gives Assad a tacit pass.

Why would Assad try and destroy evidence? He’s been doing this in front of everyone for the last 4 years.

But I get it. Boo America!!! Or whatever...

People here are working hard to turn Assad’s constant war on hospitals and medical and rescue personnel into an excuse to bash the US because hey, America bombed that hospital in Afghanistan, so who cares that Assad has been doing this every single goddamn week for years?

What do you mean “this time”? Assad has bombed hospitals for years, and killed hundreds of doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel. A day before this latest attack on a hospital, a rescue center in Atareb was destroyed, killing five volunteer rescue workers.

For fucks sake. All sides (including the US) know where MSF hospitals are. There is no excuse or reasoning that could be provided for this atrocity. It could not have been an accident. Like the American bombing a few months back, somebody’s head’s gonna roll.

No one’s head is gonna roll over this. Assad has been bombing hospitals for years, and Putin now does so regularly too. It’s a standard tactic for both.

From “Destruction of Syria’s hospitals by government forces noted in New England Journal of Medicine”:

[W]hat is happening to both providers and their facilities in Syria is not only in violation of international law, but that “the scope and scale of the government’s assault on medical personnel and facilities are among the worst since the adoption of the modern Geneva Conventions.”

The article, authored by Dr. Michele Heisler, a Harvard graduate, and two other members of Physicians for Human Rights, says PHR has documented the killings of some 679 medical personnel since 2011, mostly by Syrian government forces.

The PHR reports that two thirds of the hospitals in the city of Aleppo no longer function and that 95 percent of the doctors have been killed or have fled.

The Syrian Air force and Russia said they had no airstrike conducted in that area during that day.

Makes me wonder if this was a mortar attack by rebel forces. Western Media propaganda jumping in because Rebel forces are close to defeat.

Western Media cannot yet independently confirm.

You really think the Syrian Air Force would tell the truth about bombing a hospital and give their opponents a PR victory?

Holy fuck. You cannot be serious.

This was reported by people on the ground as soon as it happened. They saw the planes that did it.

This sort of destruction isn’t something rebels with mortars would be able to achieve, and why the hell would they want to even if they could? This is the same thing Syrians have dealt with for years: attacks from the air on hospitals are routine, as are strikes against rescue workers and ambulances. This happens all the time, week after week.
