You’re right, that walk is NOT good. It’s like she’s had one too many drinks at the beach and is hoping to make it to the can in time.

So, does anyone else remember the superstar wattage of the true 90s supermodels? Now it’s just a term thrown around for whatever vapid teenager whose combination of good looks and reality-show fame have made her flavour of the moment.

There’s a phenomenal documentary called Catwalk that followed supermodels in the 90s. Basically Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, etc just chilling and jet setting. Highly recommend.

ETA: my favorite fact about supermodels is that the models at the MET costume exhibit all have Christy Turlington’s face.

“Supermodels. Ha! Nothing super about them, spoiled, stupid little stick figures with poofy lips who think only about themselves.

I used to design for GODS.”

God I love the internet sometimes.

And just a reminder where Supermodel came from and why.

There are no more supermodels. There are models with massive social media followings, preferably members of Taylor’s Squad. Honestly, for fashion these days, it’s either an “Insta Girl” or a celeb. Of the two, I prefer the former.

Damn, I miss the days when real models were on magazine covers, editorials and ad campaigns...when fashion mags were actually about fashion.

Same here. I miss pre-Instagram models. I think those who followed fashion around the mid to late 00's had the last wave of supermodels whose social media pull didn’t matter.

Gemma Ward, Daria Werbowy, Natalia Vondinova and Sasha Pivovarova... the list could go on.

I was reading something (in an admittedly cursory fashion) about the algorithms destroying Insta-models. Any truth to it?

These two have been successful models for, what, fifteen minutes? I guarantee that they never achieve the Q score that a Cindy or aNaiomi or a Claudia had back in the day.

Bah! Get off my lawn, punk kids!

Well, that’s just the thing: their Q scores are much, much higher than any of those women of the past, bar models who became brands (Cindy, Tyra, Kathy Ireland).

When models are cast these days, they are often asked about how many followers they have on social media platforms—it’s no longer just the face, brands/mags are looking for maximum exposure.

Can’t believe I’m actually replying to this in all sincerity. But. I think Gigi is totally legit the real thing. I thought so from the beginning, she just has ‘it’, whether you like her look or not, or think she’s more commercial than ‘high’ fashion (‘high fashion’ always makes me think of Tyra Banks, do people actually use that term for reals?). I saw her backstage a couple of months ago and she has a ton of charisma and is drop dead gorgeous.

Now Kendall... No. She is becoming better and more confident as a model, but no.

Yeah... apparently, we’re not supposed to like “new” models of models...
But Gigi has worked hard to get where she is. Yes, she started with a leg up most never get (mom was a model, dad has more money than he knows what to do with) but she isn’t coasting.
She’s a much better print model than catwalk though. Her look is stunning, her walk, not so much.

Claudia Schiffer had THE worst walk. It's hilarious, she was all over the place.
