Actually you didn’t need to write this.

Actually I tried to read this and it didn’t work even though I know I can read.

Actually this is the laziest thing you’ve ever refused to edit.

Actually I couldn’t tell you a song Beyonce sings, and yet I found this piece thoughtful and interesting.

Actually this entire album is a Pinterest board set to mediocre music (that Beyonce didn’t write.) The word “basic” is actually too complex to describe it.

To call it “art” adds insult to the injury of losing Prince.

Indeed. Our visionary black artists are apparently Kanye and Beyonce. I get why Rich wrote the article in this way because it IS a bit of a complicated task to take on such a powerful symbol. I understand that symbols are important but I find her latest efforts just bland. But you do you Bey.

You know her name is on the credits as a writer and producer on all of the songs right?

And Prince fucking loved him some Beyonce.

Actually, Beyonce is a talented performer and average songwriter who may be the most overrated musical act of the past 30 years.

The only reason she’s an “average” songwriter is because the average had been drug down a bit in the past 15 years.

She’s a (very) talented performer and a barely-passable songwriter, who gets to lean on the the large numbers of “collaborators” (who are barely mentioned in this piece) to claim she’s a “musician.” She’s, at best, a producer.

Which isn’t the worst thing to be, but only when you’re honest about it.

Oh, and she's pretty. Don't forget that. That's a very important factor in how seriously your pop music is taken. A Carole King or Janis wouldn't make it past the lobby these days.

Hey, hey, hey...now you be nice to my Pet Shop Boys. They’ve done more with their careers than Beyonce ever has (What other “pop” group can claim to have written a musical produced in London’s West End, a ballet, a soundtrack to a Russian silent film, worked with the London Symphony Orchestra, and produced boundary-crossing live shows bordering on Broadway-level-show quality?) and who’s new album, “Super” is well...super!

        This isn’t surprising.

Anyone who has been following Beyonce’s career knowles that she peaked as an artist years ago.
