Well, I honestly learned something new about elephants today.

And now I want to work in the phrase “large pendulous genitals” into everyday conversation.

Why are breasts always ‘pendulous’? I don't think I've seen that adjective ever applied to anything else.

I know, right. I aways assumed they had some cow-like udder or something.

Oh my god, it’s a fucking MAMMAL.

I don’t understand the reaction over this. Adult female elephants are called cows. The babies are calves. How is this news?

I honestly think it’s because most people (myself included) presumed that elephants had udders located like other quadripeds; on the belly, not the pecs. I mean, think about it; cows, goats, horses, and sheep all have udders in the back.

So when we see that elephants buck that trend completely and have “human” udder placement, it’s just one of those “whoa, really?” moments.

Yup I was pretty surprised that elephants have boobs much like ours instead of like a horse or something.

I am jealous. Recently I saw a video taken at a sanctuary where they had baby elephants, and apparently, they really like to cuddle. Imagine a 300 lb lap puppy. They were even squirmy. I would die from joy to have a baby elephant insist on all the hugs.

If I see a baby elephant CUDDLING, I will die of squee on the spot, probably. My mom visited this same game reserve last year and her pictures were just unbelievable - it’s a private reserve so it’s much less crowded than the adjacent Kruger national park and you get to see a lot more animals up close. I’m so excited, I need these next 16 days to go faster!

Elephants are so hot right now. After the sexy gorilla moment last year, the elephant will most likely be the sexy animal of summer 2016.

Random true fact: the sengi (elephant shrew) has her nipples on her shoulders. Thank for the info, Sir David!

I *just* watched a documentary on the sengi and I did not know this! I’m even pretty sure it was narrated by Attenborough? It was definitely on the BBC at any rate. Maybe I missed it because I was squealing to loudly at their little wiggly noses.
