    My theory: not painkillers.

He found out he was HIV-positive right around the time of the Black Album. Before HAART, way before Truvada. Scared the daylights out of him, and he shelved the Black Album (full of sex and debauchery) to make Lovesexy (very spiritual) instead. He got on anti-retrovirals in time to save his life, but that god-damned Jehovah Witness church convinced him to go off meds and attempt to “pray away” the illness. He was hospitalized several times recently for the kinds of opportunistic infections that used to kill HIV-positive people (and still do in poor and/or developing areas without access to medication).

Which makes it so fucking infuriating. Organized religion takes yet another life.

Not your theory, but a commonly thrown around theory that’s been debunked.

JWs don’t bar anyone from taking their antivirals and don’t claim miracle cures. That’s an undisputed fact you can verify by just a Google search on their website. Additionally, he converted in 2001 so if he really had been neglecting his meds he would have died years ago.

I was told this rumor about three years ago from a buddy who went to law school with someone close to Prince’s camp. I remember what he told me when I read a page Six article a couple weeks ago about Sheen, Bowie and one additional A lister who was fighting the virus.

Prince was a mystery to me. Apparently he was one of the most philanthropic people around but because he didn’t believe in boasting no one except those very close to him knew. I saw an interview on CNN with a friend saying that half of California’s solar panels to needy families were paid for by Prince and just things like that. He was fucking cool.

Indeed, several songs from “Purple Rain” were actually recorded at a benefit concert for a Minnesota dance company. Quite cool.

I saw Prince on his pop up tour last year. All profits went to local charities to promote the arts. He was an amazing guy

But does it really matter how he died? They know it wasn’t murder. I don’t know, it just feels kind of ghoulish to me. I wish we could just remember his music and celebrate that. If it turns out he OD’d on pain meds I guess that might contribute something to the whole opiate discussion. I don’t know, just yuck.

Since it wasn’t something obvious, like a heart attack or being mauled by a tiger, they want to be sure that there isn’t anything that would be a threat to the community (such as a pathogen). Additionally, if they do find out that it was an OD on prescription drugs, they are going to probably take a hard look at how he got the drugs to see if there is a doctor writing pain pill scrips for profit.

He’s dead. You think he cares how he died? You think Prince was sitting by his TV waiting to see how Antonin Scalia died?

Scalia was 79, three years older than the average life expectancy of an American male. Prince was 57. People want to know why he died at a relatively young age.

Of course Prince doesn’t care how he died. But other people do.

It’s not randos who are ordering the autopsy to satisfy their curiosity. There’s probably a law or rule that mandates the authorities perform an autopsy in the case of a suspicious death. The police are issuing statements about this case because obviously Prince is a public figure and there’s a lot of interest.

But if Mr. Nelson were an ordinary dude who died in similar circumstances, they still would have done the autopsy. There just wouldn’t be press statements about it.

A week, eh? That gives us entirely too much time for baseless speculation.

Of course, Obama Hillary probably had him killed.

Nothing like a high profile celebrity death to distract from stealing the New York primary by a double digits margin.

      But only as an EP.

(See the joke is that Prince was short, and because an EP is technically... I’ll show myself out.)

Well, if you believe the crap that someone on my Facebook feed was sharing last night, he was murdered. Just like pretty much every black celebrity who has died in the past twenty years. They were all murdered because the powers that be couldn’t stand to see successful black entertainers.

I still can't decide whether to unfriend the person who shared that crap or continue to read their updates out of morbid curiosity that people can be that gullible.

So they were biding their time for 30 years to kill him after he peaked in the public eye? I love crackpot logic.

If he did overdose on Percs, it’s not because he was treating chronic pain from a six year old hip surgery. It’s because he was addicted to Percs.

Pecocets lower your respiration. If you are even slightly ill with the flu it can be a dangerous combination and lower your respiration and heartrate to levels needing emergency ressucitation— as apparently he needed after his show last week. Dehydration, Percocets, a nasty virus, and a small man....it is absolutely not out of the realm of possibilities.

This sort of postmortem scrutiny is why I plan to die on a Texas quail ranch.
