That’s too bad. I was hoping it’d be a solid voice. God knows we need different voices.

The one those three religions and thousands of sects all seem to want to murder each other for worshiping slightly differently.

Gosh, I can’t imagine that a network owned by a Gulf state and run by Gulf Arabs might have problems with sexism and racial bias against Indians. I bet they treated their black employee especially well, too.

Wait, are you trying to make an anti-racist/sexist point by making a sweeping generalization about Gulf Arabs?

For anyone who’s been following news from India even a tiny bit, the treatment of Indians by Gulf employers is a very, very large topic.

I think its name failed the company. There’s a massive culture of xenophobia and fear in America, most people don’t want to watch a channel called Al-Jazeera. Before it came to america I only knew it as the network that released beheading videos and Bin Laden tapes, not a great association for american viewers.

Only asking because the numbers astound me but does anyone know what the network’s yearly operating costs (or whatever - I do not know the correct term) were? It just sounds insane to me that they lost $335 million in a year, almost as if, on top of production costs, they were giving away all the commercial slots for free and paying the cable and satellite carriers.

(Full disclosure that all of the tv industry - discounting Netflix, Amazon, etc., - sounds insane to me. Overall the business just comes off to me as some sort of house of cards or long con.)

There were a ton of rumors of anti-semetism as well, so I’m not surprised in the least.
