For the tiger, sure. You shouldn’t necessarily try it at the bar tonight, Gella.

I was going to make the “know your big cats” joke, but wasn’t entirely sure if that was a leopard print.

Everybody knows you’re supposed to grab a tiger by the tail.

Also, the parents of these little kids are idiots.

Was this the tiger that was in a wildlife refuge that was getting flooded so the handler took the tiger to someone to “babysit” who wasn’t prepared for something like this and the tiger escaped? Or does Houston just have lots of free-range tigers?

Texas has a lot of tigers because telling people they can’t keep a tiger in their house would be nanny-stating and un-Texan!

Seriously, it’s legal for randos to have pet tigers there. Regulation is by the county, and you’ve only had to even register them for the last decade or so. It’s fucked up and Texas isn’t the only state where it’s allowed.

Sounds like the owner was walking the tiger and it escaped....or ate it’s owner. Whichever.

Some POS declawed it, which is the piece of information that prevents me from enjoying this as a lighthearted story.

BTW, anybody who runs up to a tiger to try and catch it, even one with a collar on and acting like a house cat, probably deserves to be eaten.

declaw psa time! it’s a painful, radical amputation and it makes baby kitty jesus cry. humane alternatives are widely available AND you can always adopt an already-declawed cat from your local shelter if needs must.

        back to you, keith!

i’ve only ever had one, his name was Texas interestingly enough, and i’m pretty sure my step-brother stole him that way. It was totally sad watching him do stuff with his little deflated toes. Absolutely heart breaking, it’s like if someone ripped out finger bones and just left someone with empty flappy finger skin. He was such a sweet kitty too.

Just here to second everything you said :)

So my state has a whole rescue basically dedicated to these animals that morons think should be pets until they reach a certain size and/or age. And instead of bringing the tiger or the liger or the lynx or whatever TO the rescue they let it go in one of the national parks or even the local parks. And I know it’s expecting too much from the people who want to keep these animals as pets, but seriously...firstly, the Buffalo River is not this animal’s native habitat and even if it was you raised it from a baby to eat out of a bowl. Some of them have been rescued half starved because they either don't know how to get their own food or the area they have been released in doesn't have enough "prey" to support them.

God, that’s sad. What morons these people are to a.) try to actually have these wild animals as “pets,” and b.) let them go in a random NATIONAL PARK to fend for themselves. Jesus.
