“to reduce the risk of potentially catastrophic personal and professional consequences that could befall them and their families.”

It’s so nice that they are concerned for their families.

Well of course they’re concerned. They never thought they would get caught and now want to assert their invisible man in the sky given right to secretly be cheating assholes.

I don't understand this logic. Why wouldn't these people be concerned for their families? I hate this generalization that all cheating is equal and that all extra marital sex involves some sleepy affair. This is sex negative culture at play rearing its ugly head.

That’s a bit rich coming from people who clearly didn’t care about any of that until they got caught.

So much this. People who chronically cheat do mental gymnastics to be victims. I left a guy because he had been cheating for a year (and probably longer than that but I never got proof of that), he called me at work sobbing about how sad and hurt he was, and how he couldn’t afford bills after I moved out and was sitting in the dark under a blanket freezing and sad. That was the moment I knew I didn’t love him anymore and needed to never see him again because that’s was my fault HOW?!

How many times do we need to say that adultery/=cheating? You’re lack of empathy is appalling.

Thousands of people have open relationships, but don’t want anyone except their intimate partners KNOWING that they have those relationships. Say you’re an accountant in Alabama happily letting your wife sleep with other guys (much more common than you’d think!) You might not want your clients knowing that’s your lifestyle.

Cheating is between the two people in a relationship. They have to work that shit out. I’m not a part of it, no matter what I think of it.

For me, this about a site, any site, being hacked and personal info, including credit card info, being released into the public.

Today, it’s cheaters. And a lot of people seem to be all, “I don’t care, fuck them, they have it coming.”

Tomorrow, it’s women who’ve received abortions. Or people’s medical records from a Free Clinic.

There’s plenty of people out there happy to say, “Fuck them, they’re doing something I don’t like that I think is immoral or against the good of families.”

I agree that they are right to be upset that their personal information was released. However, I feel no sympathy for the fact that men were caught cheating.

On the other hand, I feel it is unfair to compare Ashley Madison to abortion patients since an abortion is a medical procedure and should be covered by HIPPA laws. Ashley Madison should keep its customers personal info protected, but the expectations are different.

      See, this is the problem.

You’re using your personal morality to decide what is and isn’t an invasion of privacy.

I don’t care if you think it’s right or wrong to cheat. I’m not saying abortion is the same as cheating.

Hackers with their own moral ideas or just out of their own sense of humor, are deciding. And they don’t give a shit about HIPAA anymore than they do about privacy rights. THAT’S my point.

That you should care because of THAT. I didn’t say we should sympathize with the Ashely Madison guys. I’m saying we should be concerned that their is zero protection for private info once someone hacks, gets it and, then, puts it on the web. At which point, it’s apparently, according to the courts, public info. That’s not a good idea.

“All things to consider the next time you’re considering leaving an elaborate digital record of your interest in adultery”

Oh thanks a LOT, Anna. Now my business “The Cheatin’ Cheetah” in which I help people make websites with elaborate puzzles and riddles that lead to their social security numbers, various passwords, general physical appearance, and a detailed record of every indiscretion committed during their marriage will NEVER get off a ground. And I’m almost finished with the kick starter and EVERYTHING! And yes, in case you’re wondering, I just signed up for that website design class at the university of phoenix online YESTERDAY! You think that’s free? Do you think I just have dozens of dollars to throw away on (what was) a million dollar idea and is now WORTHLESS?? You know what? Don’t answer. You’ve ruined all my dreams just like you ruined my niece’s christening by telling me that “braiding hair with twizzlers” was also an “unrealistic” way to make a living. I think I need some space.

I got caught cheating once, when I was 35. I enjoy cheating. It’s just as simple as that. Well it’s, just a...simple fact. When I want some strange and I don’t want to pay for it.

This whole thing is probably a blessing in disguise for some partners. Forget the cheating bit, who wants to be married to someone dumb enough to use their real credit card instead of one of those anonymous Visa gift cards?

I’ve written that, too. I mean, duuuuuuh.

I still don’t understand the point of this website. If you’re already lying to your wife about cheating, why not just go on Tinder and lie there too? You’ll get a MUCH bigger pool of people to choose from, and it’s not like being open and honest with your fuck buddy cancels out cheating on your spouse.
