I overheard a dude on campus yesterday say that if they allow trans women into women’s restrooms then there is nothing legally to protect women and keep him from going into women’s restrooms. I want to know what he would be doing that I would not be safe? Frankly, if anyone goes in just to get their shit done, I do not give one single fuck.

Right? Dudes keep asking that, and I’m like “okay, why do you want to go in there? Because you feel like a woman inside? Great, go for it. Because you want to be an asshole? Go rethink your life.”

I bet he’s also the sort of guy who goes into a #notallmen frenzy when women talk about feeling afraid of being hit on by strange men in isolated areas late at night.

These are probably all the same people that said they were boycotting Target when they took the gendered signs out of the toy aisles.

Ooooh. I want that guy who replied as “Target” to the Facebook commenters against gender neutral toy aisles to start trolling again. That was the MOST fun I’ve had on the internet in a long time. Except for maybe Ambien Walrus.

I know what you’re talking about and he is! The page is called, “Hope That Helps” and he’s been commenting and posting the screenshots to the pages.

Someone responded to the reply and told them they were canceling their red card because of the reply.

Why does every male feel the need to “protect” women on this one fucking issue?? Like dude, we are good with transgender women using the women’s bathroom. Maybe try being this upset about how few rape kits are actually tested? Or that only 2% of rapists actually ever get convicted (meaning there are legitimate sexual predators out there to worry about)? Or how about your daughters going to colleges that try their hardest not to look like they have a lot of rapes reported?

You can rest assured that those transgender women using the same bathroom as your daughters and wife won’t put them in harms way.

It allows them to continue the trope of the hero in an age of “emasculated men”. It’s also a way to perpetuate violence against queer people and control their bodies. I mean, who in their right mind would deny someone a poop. Such douchebags.

Male here (admittly one that supports transgender people allowed to go to the bathroom matching their identity but I know the thought process for some [not all! but some] that don’t.)

It really comes down to control issue and entitlement. Some men (again some) are set in their hyper masculine ideals that any hint of femininity in some that looks/has traits of maleness (even if they want nothing but to crap/piss in peace), is something that must be stopped because they aren’t too “manly.”

Then there is the control that (once again some) feel in having power over others, even in denying those to conduct bodily functions in peace.

It’s also an idea of control over women’s bodies as well, the idea that men are meant to be the dominate one and that anyone identifying as female is means that they are somehow “weak” in some aspect. (Same reason why “pussy” [and other slang for/involving female genitalia] is slang for cowardice and other “weakness” in our culture, but that’s a separate issue.)

It’s the reason why some men are so fixated over this, they can’t control ciswomen to deny them bathroom rights but someone born male (or ambiguous) but identifies and/or transitioned to female, they feel are fair game. Stupid, idiotic, etc but that’s why in some cases.

NOTE: I say “some” a lot because it’s impossible to speak on behalf of a whole population and I’m sure there are men who are just as inane and idiotic in refusing transwomen/transmen bathroom rights but for different reasons.

So, somewhat related? Maybe? I dunno, I’m kind of drunk and I want to share.

This past weekend I hung out with a friend and her sister. Her sister is very religious and conservative - very unlike my friend, who’s a liberal heathen, like me. So, her sister makes a disparaging remark about Obamacare and not wanting to be on the public dole. Later she talks about how much she loves Walmart. Now, since I just met her, I didn’t feel like it was my place to point out that Walmart pays its employees so little that a huge percentage of them are on the public dole because they can’t afford to make ends meet, and that Walmart is the number one driver behind the growing use of food stamps in the U.S.

To tie it all together, I feel like the same people who are railing against Target in this situation are the same people who shop at Walmart w/o a thought about the fact that this shitty company is sucking at the government’s teat and exploiting its workers while making a handful of people billionaires.

I think it was on a FB news article about this, where I saw a commenter responding to all the whiny “I’m done with Target forever” crap, saying “You look like you belong at Wal-Mart anyways.” Those people probably never went to Target anyways because it’s too fancy and lib-rul.

Yup. They were known for having some homophobic C-suite execs at one point too, I think. Which makes it doubly awesome that they’ve seemed to have decided once and for all to be taking the correct, non-discriminatory stance!

WOW these Facebook comments are insane, I enjoyed reading them for the humor (but it’s tragic that they got so many likes):

“When the privacy of 99.99% of the women is sacrificed for the convenience of the confused, it’s time to find another place to shop.” - Where did you get that percent from, Gerald?? And is anyone really more confused than you?

I had a woman tell me that even though we’re essentially punishing an entire group of people (the trans community) for the crimes of an entirely different group (CIS men who can’t control themselves) that the majority of people would be safer. I told her that considering people use the bathroom billions of times a day, even if you drastically over inflate the instance of bathroom assault to say, 100 a day in America, the majority of people would have no difference in their bathroom experience. She stopped talking to me, but I feel like it’s a point that needs made. If they’re going to fear monger, they should be somewhat aware of how mathematically stupid they sound.

Seriously, it’s like what, 700k transgender people in the entire country? Take away anyone who doesn’t have a penis. Then take away those who aren’t currently at Target. Then take away those who are at Target but aren’t going to use the restroom. Then take away those who are at Target and are going to use the restroom but don’t have nefarious intent. That leaves how many eeeeeebil transgender people that want to rape your snowflake?

The chances of some trans person raping someone in a bathroom are practically nil. The whole ‘bathroom bill’ thing is a solution in search of a problem.

I’d say this would make me shop at Target more but I already go there 837 times a week.

I do hope the bigoted bigots follow through and stay home. I’d rather not be near them while buying my garden hoses, almond milk and throw pillows while sucking down a 2-gallon icee.

I always HATED when I needed to make a lunch run to Target because the homeschooler crazy born agains would bring their kids to Target, get them snacks and then let them loose in the store around that time. I’m feeling pretty safe to say those are the first ones to be angry at this and I’m really hoping they stick to their guns about not shopping there.

I’m not knocking people who have crazy kids and errands to run, just to be clear. I know how kids are and I applaud any person who is able to successfully shop with kids in tow.

So recently I went through a period of unemployment and had moved to a new state. We have a Target pretty close to us, with groceries, and since I didn’t have anything else to do it was really easy to be like, ok we need X, I’ll run to Target. Apparently I did it so much that google maps (which is a creepy phone stalker and knows where I go even when not actively in use) decided that this place I drove to so often was my workplace. I started getting notifications about how it was a 12 minute drive to work - they meant the shopping plaza with the Target.

The whole situation is a hideous mess and I feel deeply for the trans people caught up in it. But the bright spot is that homo-and transphobia are now bad for business. Target knew that this decision would cost them some customers, but would bring in enough new shoppers to at least balance it. They don’t care if you boycott them, haters, because there aren’t enough of you anymore to be a market worth courting.

I so want to see Walmart make a similar declaration. Heads would explode.

I feel huge compassion for trans people with all this hate, but it’s heartening to see how many bad people express neutrality towards gay people along with their hate for trans. They are sliding on down that slippery slope, and I can see a future where gay and trans and queer people are just people and not the target of so much hate.

The bigots who cry about how they want to protect women and children from predators...

What is stopping actual predators right now if they want to go into a restroom and harm women and children?

“Oh, the magical sign on the door says women only, guess I can’t go in...maybe next time!”

But sure, you keep pretending that it has nothing to do with bigotry and everything to do with protecting women and children.
