I still don’t see a problem in what she said...? I want girls to be as safe as possible.

The problem is that it's been proven that dressing modestly DOESN'T keep women and girls (or anyone else) safe from rapists, and that it sends boys, men, and abusers the wrong message when they constantly hear that women and girls need to avoid dressing a certain way in order for them not to rape.

But we’re not talking about rape here...? The conversation is mostly about reducing inappropriate behavior from male teachers like leering and verbal sexual harassment.

And as long as the young ladies are at it, they should stop flashing their purses around at everyone because it shows they have money, and so many people are attracted to money. You don’t want to turn someone into a thief or a mugger now, do you?

Honestly, it’s getting a little tiring that people can’t voice their opinions without everybody jumping at their throats. So you disagree. Leave it at that. Why must we demand apologies from celebrities? What she said is not far from the truth, sadly. Some truths are hard to hear. The world is what it is. She’s not slut shaming or victim blaming. She’s simply stating that she wants to protect young girls like her daughters. I think a woman should wear whatever the hell she wants, but a young girl might need some extra guidance and protection, is all. Way too many perverts abund. What is our master plan to re-educate them? Nothing is ever done even if you are groped in public. I remember the group of assholes hanging out in front of the stairs at Union Square hoping to catch a glimpse or photograph girls in skirts. Nothing was done about that.

I think as an adult woman I’m going to wear whatever I want because I can handle any asshole that comes my way. And I’m going to raise my girls (if I ever have them) to do just that. But if they’re minors, there are certain clothing items they will not wear until they’re mature enough to understand what’s going on and what’s out there. Once you’re an adult wear whatever you want, but I don’t want any creeper checking out my 13 year old in a mini skirt. There is an age for everything. At the same time I’d advocate to eliminate this whole “It’s distracting to boys.” You can have dress codes without making it sound shameful. Enforce dress codes for everybody, if someone, anyone, violates it, don't make it about protecting the boys. They watch worse shit online.

I’ve said it once, I will say it every time it happens

Maybe just don’t fucking use twitter to discuss something requires more than 140 characters.

She’s not wrong, it happens. No matter what length our skirts are, someone will be attracted to you. But then she flails over into that “SO DONT SEND MIXED MESSAGES” and I am like GIRL STOP!

This is really demonstrably untrue. Telling women to cover up does not protect them, it does the exact opposite by sending the message that if women do not want sexual contact, they have to express that through their dress (or drinking habits, or whatever other dumb thing idiots come up with). The only message you need to send to society to prevent assault is that men who commit it will end up in jail. If you look at countries where women do cover up, are the rates of sexual assault less? Over 90% of women in Egypt report being sexually harassed and assaulted. There are travel advisories over it. There’s not just logical and ethical proof that its a dangerous thing to say, there’s actual physical proof from the countries where Badu’s creeptastic ideas are tried.
