I have yet to meet an adult pot head who just occasionally gets high. Instead you will make plans with them for dinner or a movie and they’ll show up high. They’ll make plans on the weekend around the times and places they can get high. Its boring and obnoxious, so although I don’t care if people smoke pot, do I want to date one? Nope.

Well, there’s a difference between a person who smokes weed and a weed head. You described a weed head. There are plenty of adults who smoke and it’s not a big deal, just like some people drink socially and some people are alcoholics, you know? I never want to date an alcoholic, but social drinkers are fine.

I’m saying, I don’t know any adults that smoke once a week if they can smoke every day. None. I’m happy to be open that they exist.

I’m a Gen Xer (on the older side of, but within the spread), and it just seems immature to me. Plus, simple possession is still illegal where I live, so my SO, if s/he smoked pot, would have to never bring any into the house or car. ‘Cause I’m not being put at risk just because you wanna live like you’re fifteen.

Also, I don’t enjoy it myself - it makes me tense and even paranoid - so we’d never be able to share the experience. What fun is that for either of us?

Still, being a child of the ‘70s, I do enjoy stoner humor. A LOT. One of my favorite things about today, 4/20, is that Deadbeat is back for its third season!

Also the risk of losing your job if they do testing; possibly getting arrested, jail, a record, etc. Jeff Spicoli was funny as hell but I have no desire to be him at 44.

There’s really no risk having weed in your house. No cop is going to get a warrant to bust you for a recreational dime bag.

Could this just have something to do with getting older, though? Like, I’m less likely to date a frequent pot smoker today than I was five years ago. And I’m sure I’ll be even less likely in my thirties and forties.

I think alcohol and drug use—at least in large quantities—declines as you age.

ETA I think I might get responses about the Boomers’ numbers being higher, but I think that has more to do with the increased acceptability of drug use/availability of pot during their early adulthood. I’d wager the 60s have more to do with the difference than Nancy Reagan.

That’s what I think - so they asked a bunch of adults in their 30's and 40's if they want to date a pothead... as a Gen-xer my response would be “no thanks, been there, done that, grown out of it.”

Baby boomers don’t mind it though. They are 57% more likely to smoke than Gen X.

Okay okay. We get that it’s 4/20 but enough with the weed stories. You do know that a woman pretty much secured the Presidency yesterday right? Can we get some more coverage on that when you get a chance?

Being around pot heads whose entire lives revolved around smoking pot did it. Now it’s the same as having a beer but back then the pot culture was a bunch of people sitting around and talking about pot for hours on end because it made them feel like they were part of the cool kids. What they were was tedious.

This is what I was thinking. I’ve partaken plenty in my younger years, but now my use is limited to a few times a year. I don’t want to date someone whose hobby is pot. It smells, it's illegal here, and frankly it's boring to be around someone who is always high.

Yes! I grew up in a hippie town and whenever someone at a party now busts out weed, I immediately flash back to being super bored while dudes played bad Sublime and Bob Marley covers and talked about how great weed is.

A penchant? Like... they really enjoy having multiple orgasms or giving multiple orgasms?

Yeah, who’s out there being like “no thanks, just one orgasm for me tonight, I’m on a diet” when multiple orgasms are on the table. It’s got to be a penchant for giving them.

No, this is mainly about being too busy trying to not fall into abject poverty as Boomers refuse to retire and have fucked up our tax system, and millennials will be taking the jobs that the Boomers finally retire from, leaving us with diddly. We’re too tired to get stoned on the regular. We just want to get laid and go home. Not always in that order. Besides, a bunch of us dealt with our stoned Boomer parents. Getting stoned is boring after awhile.

Those Boomers aren’t refusing to retire, they can’t afford to. Most of them would love nothing better.

Yeah. You’re right. I was thinking of a small group of Boomers. But as a whole, their lives are in bad shape financially, too. I shouldn’t have generalized.

    MYTH 4: SMOKERS ARE LAZY

When people think of those who have smoked pot, they’re more inclined to believe they are lazy and unmotivated. This is far from the truth. Those who support legalizing pot are more likely to exercise regularly (18%) and are even most likely to have a professional or graduate degree (65% more likely than those who do not support pot).

Does this writer not know that supporting legalization and smoking marijuana are not the same thing?

isn’t it crazy the stereotypes that are flying around in the comments?? all the non-partakers are so judgey and self-righteous today.

what about people who use daily because they medically benefit from doing so (because of nerve pain that doesn’t respond to opioids, or chronic seizures, etc.)? i sleep better, get more exercise, eat better, get more done, and suffer less social anxiety when i vaporise cannabis daily. it’s like they can’t acknowledge that some people really do benefit from cannabis, despite all the scientific evidence that supports medicinal cannabis for many conditions. it’s so irrational to lump cannabis in with hard drugs like heroin and cocaine and judge anyone who uses it as a layabout junkie.

Personally, I would never date one because weed is disgusting. It smells like rotting skunk carcasses, and that stink lingers. The only thing worse is patchouli.

Also, potheads talk about weed a lot which is deeply boring to me and they tend to act like getting high makes them superior some how. You want to get high? Go for it, but it doesn’t make you better than people who don’t.
