Who knew bigotry had rain dates.

Or I guess in this case, a “wait and see how badly North Carolina gets screwed over by this decision” date.

Tennessee is very pro business. Our politicians love jobs even more than they hate the LGBT community. It worked out well for once.

As neat as that is, I am almost willing to bet they are going to try and utilize the short memories of people to sneak it in. Put it up, get attention, then delay it for as little as two weeks, everyone will be over it and you can have your dong checkers in every restroom in the state.

My company’s (Fortune Global 50) CEO just announced complete support for our LGBT employees and total opposition to the new “religious freedom” laws being passed.

Kind of significant because we are not historically a “progressive” company politically. Made me feel a little prouder.

Mine is the same way. (Banking) They’ve been a strong supporter for at least a decade. Once upon a time customers would close their accounts over our “support of the homosexual life style” and we were free to be as cheerful as possible about losing their business. When someone at work was transitioning, they basically threatened to clean house if anyone was disrespectful to her even in private. They’ve also been bringing jobs into the state, I’m in Tennessee, at a rapid rate so I was pretty concerned about what would happen if this bill went forward.

That’s wonderful, and also, let’s face it, just good business! Even if a company was led by a bigoted asshole(s), having inclusive policies when it comes to employment (even when not mandated by law) and services is a smart move. People like giving their money to and working for inclusive companies. I don’t understand, though, why people don’t seem to like voting for politicians who support diversity, inclusivity, and basic humanity :(

This grows tiresome. There is not a plague of transgender people attacking women and children in bathrooms. This is not a real fear. This is being done because of fear of those who are different and deciding your religion is more important then other people’s human rights.

would force public school students, kindergarten through 12th grade,

Because God knows those grades are an untapped hotbed of sexual predators.

Why should people leave their homes? I’d rather stay and fight the good fight. Most people aren’t assholes. A lot of them are but not all. They just don’t vote or they don’t have the opportunity to vote for the opposition. But things are slowly changing. Politics and religion aside, I love my home. I love my community and my mountains. I have a good job and a good life. I work for a progressive employer who doesn’t tolerate any type of discrimination and I’m not leaving because of these transphobic assholes. I’ll stay and keep voting and doing what I can to make things better here.

Oh absolutely, people should stay and fight it, but some people aren’t in a position to do that. Or they don’t want to take a chance on sending their children to a school that would discriminate against them, because who knows what they’ve already been through. But if you can fight it, fight it, and good luck to you!

I am still absolutely 100 percent in support of maintaining the privacy of all students.

So, this “privacy” lingo is the new conservative talking point on this non-issue, I gather? I know it’s a talking point to cover up bigotry, but if anyone does legitimately buy the “privacy” argument I think they’re doing bathrooms (and even locker rooms) wrong. There is almost ALWAYS a private place to change in a locker room (like, I dunno, THE BATHROOM STALL?), and all bathrooms have stalls. No one is being forced to pee, poop, change a tampon, cry over tween or teen drama, or change in front of other people. Like, for fuck’s sake, people.

For people supposedly interested in protecting privacy, they are awfully concerned with what a bunch of children have in their pants

I’m not at all worried about transpeople in my bathroom, or any bathroom. YOu know what bugs me? TODDLERS. Those little shits run around and peek under the stalls and say, “HEY LADY. WHY ARE YOU PLAYING ON YOUR PHONE WHILE YOU POOP.”

So, I’d be in favor of toddler-free bathrooms.

I have four kids and am a huge advocate of raising awareness of toddlerphobia. There are simply not enough people who are afraid of what toddlers can do and how quickly they can do it. We should have more toddler free zones. And I never ever want to share my glass of water with one ever again.

My brother had frosted doors in his bathroom (why?), and when I’d go to the bathroom, my nephew would plaster himself against the door and cry for me to come out while jiggling the door handle. Lol.

This is what it’s like to go to the bathroom around my nephews:

Sometimes we don’t get things completely wrong!! Suck it North Carolina!

I’m mostly just kidding. Tennessee politics can be pretty terrible but our governor, who is very moderate by today’s GOP standards, is always very pro-business and would have (most likely) veto’d this anyway.

Between this & the bible being vetoed as the official state book (*vomit*) I’m beginning to wonder if I’m in the twilight zone! Look at Tennessee, doing shit right...even if it’s only temporary.
