Now does that look like the face of someone who would trick you into joining a paid service? The answer is yes. Yes it does. He also looks like he is hiding something in his mouth. Some sort of contraband.

The only reason I started a free trial on Tidal was because I thought that was the only place I could listen to Anti. Then I realized I could download the album on iTunes and cancelled post haste.

    Cool story, by me.

I’m not sure they can sue Jay-Z or Tidal because neither ever said that themselves. Kanye is the one who controls where his music is streamed not Tidal or Jay-Z. If Kanye decided to say that Tidal is the only place to stream it there is no reason for them to refute Kanye because for all they knew Kanye was being serious. That he wasn't going to license his music to other services.

since Tidal doesn’t seem all that concerned with kayne committing a breach of contract (which he would have, if he told them he would exclusively stream on their platform and then didnt), it seems as though they knew that the album would be released elsewhere

But I don’t think Tidal or Jay-Z are legally obligated to refute the claims of one of Kanye’s Twitter rants especially since at that moment in time Kanye may have been serious. Just because Kanye didn’t sign exclusive rights doesn’t mean Kanye wasn’t serious about about only allowing it on Tidal.

I just don’t think they have a claim against them and unless they told Kanye to Tweet that and that could be proved.

By the way, I totally think they did that. But there is no proof that Jay-Z or Tidal did that and it is not reasonable to expect anyone to spend time refuting or confirming Kanye and the many crazy things he says.

Is this a rule in America now? No free trials can turn into subscriptions? Every free trial I’ve ever had needed card details and I had to cancel it before the month was up otherwise it charges

I think they are trying to make it that way with this lawsuit?? That’s how I read it, anyways.

Yea, this is absurd. This is every free trial that asks for a CC ever. Welcome to the world, kids.

I’m not sure I gather how anyone was so desperate to hear this that when a “free” trial asked for their credit card details, they were able to ignore the ringing alarm bell in their heads?

A lot of places do that. They want the CC info to “verify your age” when you sign up for the trial. Then automatically charge you when the trial finishes.

On the whole “free into sub” thing.

Didn’t Apple Music basically pull the same stunt(although yes, you could have toggled the slider buried inside the app to not subscribe, which was the first thing I did)?

Sooo I’m not sure that part of the deal was really that scammish? But I will say that if you tell your fans something is only available here and nowhere else, then yes it’s right to be understandably pissed when an exclusive isn’t so exclusive in not even that long a time period.

If he had waited...oh I dunno....six months? Then I think people wouldn’t care quite as much. Oh they might grumble a little, but six months is quite a long time in the social media space.

Well the hits keep coming for Tidal and not the good kind. It’s obvious that Jay rushed this deal thinking his celebrity would be enough to make this into a success. I still don’t know what distinguishes Tidal from the 5 other streaming services. I heard something about how the artists were supposed to be paid more of the procceds from sales but they just got sued by a bunch of artists for not paying them.

There are two things that make it different.
          1. Lossless streaming as a 20$ a month option (instead of the regular 10$ per month plan). This is what Tidal had before it was bought up.
          2. Exclusive content, like what this lawsuit is about.

The content isn’t exclusive though. All of the stuff they release on Tidal eventually finds its way to other streaming services within a week.
