No, I think in fact Gawker, and this fella writer in particular, has a pretty strong and un-butthurt obsession with promoting the values of unions. And I’ll say as someone who works in labor relations, a 29 fucking percent raise is incredible! So I think he’s probably saying to the world: Hey, look what being in a union can do for ya!

In fact, in thinking more about it, I don’t think butthurt enters into it whatsoever bro!

Awesome. I fell in love with a lot of the Jezebel writers who left for Vice/Broadly and if they’re not making at least 45k in Brooklyn, I don’t even know. Nothing upsets me more than people living on gas station food by obligation, even tho I do it by choice.

That is one of the things you have to wonder about though - Gawker has made a huge point of saying, even pro-union, that they pay better than Vice. But why on earth would anyone leave Gawker to go to Vice if they weren’t getting paid more? I’m sure Vice has been taking advantage of some if not all of their entry-level employees, but it seems more likely they are willing to pay for more established talent, and if there is a trajectory for those starting out to get to that level that doesn’t seem like digital sweat shop work to me. . .

Vice mostly had a problem with paying freelancers. I remember when someone I knew was goaded into sharing childhood cartoons he made with their art director, not to be published. And BLAM that shit was published.

I would like to take this opportunity to say that the Detroit episode of Noisey that aired the other night, which I made a point of staying awake for, was straight bullshit.

So much incredible rap has been coming out of there the past few years, they gassed up Danny Brown a little bit, and then talked about nothing but gun-toting scrubs the rest of the show. Dudes rapping poorly waving guns around in YouTube videos to get paid is not a Detroit thing- it’s an everywhere thing. Apply all the big words to it you want, it’s disposable and begging to be ignored by adults.

Those Chief Keef leg-humpers are the exploitive bane of rap.

Even if no one else appreciates your appreciation of local Detroit rap, I do.

Meanwhile, Gawker writers will be required to wash Hulk Hogan’s car collection on the weekends.

Apparently he was on the course to host a show on Fox News (which would have been interesting to hear how him and the alt-right would have to be on a network they deemed “cuckservative”)...but Gavin being Gavin he went and fucked that up.

Now he’s doing a podcast on Anthony Cumia’s pay service, which isn’t long for this world either.

As long as they rely on freelancers as much as they do, it’s not going to have the impact it could.
