I call bullshit on this article’s entire premise. Every single day the headlines, including those of Gawker, Gizmodo, io9, etc, include phrases like “THIS THING IS PERFECT”, “THIS IS AWESOME”, “THIS IS AMAZING”, “WOW” and the payoff is usually always no where near perfect, amazing or awesome. I agree that the media should be called out for using clickbait titles such as the examples listed above but lets not pretend gawker media doesn’t do exactly the same. While exaggerated, Louie CK complained about the very same thing:

“As humans, we waste the shit out of our words. It’s sad. We use words like “awesome” and “wonderful” like they’re candy. It was awesome? Really? It inspired awe? It was wonderful? Are you serious? It was full of wonder? You use the word “amazing” to describe a goddamn sandwich at Wendy’s. What’s going to happen on your wedding day, or when your first child is born? How will you describe it? You already wasted “amazing” on a fucking sandwich.”

I’ll try to be fair and say that maybe Ashley isn’t guilty of using headlines such as these but I’m certain that Gawker Media as a whole is guilty of the same.

I would love to see one headline where Gawker.com has called anything amazing in the past year. I’m not being combative I am just genuinely curious.

Fearful? Who’s talking about fear? Nobody’s saying they’re afraid and they want a wall. Ask anybody. Zuckerberg’s afraid, he’s a afraid of winning. Cause that’s what our wall is about: winning. Every brick is a win, and we are going to win so much. And it’s gonna be beautiful. Beautiful as art. It is art, big beautiful public art. I just thought of that. Beautiful public art that expresses our winningness. Very classy art. Very high grade. So beautiful you wont’ believe it, believe me. Trust me, I have a lot of art. It’ll be very classy and beautiful. And we’ll win.

No, Zuckerberg doesn’t need to be called a hero for saying that, and there’s always cynical self-interest working behind his pronouncements on social and political issues. But given how many other big corporate execs remain totally silent about Drumpf, and given how many media outlets still cover him as if he’s a suitable candidate for POTUS, it is newsworthy. If more media companies and CEOs had publicly denounced him, his “policies,” and the xenophobia of his followers then maybe the headlines here would have been less breathless.

Of course he does. So do most of the other CEOs who are remaining silent because they’re worried they might have to cut a deal with Drumpf if he somehow gets into office (because conservative CEOs making accommodations with right-wing demagogues always works out so well).

I see a lot of people around the world live streaming their lives via facebook by wearing suits of GoPro cameras. But I also see a lot of people forgetting that you can swallow cameras to livestream the horrors/miracles happening inside your body as well. As a pioneer, I’d like to ask you, my customers, to also please upload all those vids to facebook. I assure you that one day I will distill your emotions, dreams, fears, life experiences, and desires into a sports drink that will come in three flavors.

When the human race dies and future aliens find all of our media servers, they are going to have to sift through so much pointless bullshit to find out anything interesting about us. They’re going to see how much data we devoted to porn and cat videos and go “no wonder these assholes went extinct”

I’m so sick of hearing about how tech “supports immigration.”

The only reason they “support” immigration is so they can get my HB1s and drive down salaries.

No shit. Zuckerberg supports policies that benefit (surprise!) Zuckerberg and Facebook. He has to play both sides of the field.

I don’t know why everyone was horrified that he cozied up with Paul Ryan. Zuckerberg needs cheap tech help, and more HB1 visas are the best way to do that.

I never thought that guy had a steadfast political position for that very reason. He needs to pander at a moment’s notice.

The media outlets are using the same language they used when Tim Cook pushed LGBT and climate change endeavors, except he actually did take some risks in saying what he said. Like, if you don’t believe its necessary to deal with climate change and invest in renewable, dump your AAPL shares now.

The first part is actually a decent statement- he’s basically calling Trump a coward. I mean, he takes each of Trump’s issues and presents them not as brave or signs of strength, but each as signs of fear. I think that is a fairly perceptive way to attack Trump because it goes directly to his perceived strength and flips it. Building a wall will not make America strong, it makes America look terrified of its neighbours, etc.

Unfortunately, it all falls apart at the end. Not sure why Zuckerburg thought to contrast fear with hope, which is kind of lame and ruins the fear/strength contrast he had set up in the first paragraph. Don’t be fearful, it takes courage to be...hopeful! Meh. Then he just peters out by moving into the whole don’t worry if people call you naive thing, which just...that’s hardly the worst insult people could call you.
