I’ll never bet against corruption, but I would never rule out a plot by Andrew Cuomo to weaken de Blasio so that another Democrat can primary him in next fall’s mayoral election. He’ll never lose to a Republican, but he could lose to a Democrat who has Albany backers.

I hate Cuomo with the heat of a thousand fiery suns (I voted for Teachout in the last election; the first time in my life I didn’t pull the Democratic lever for a major office), but I think di Blasio has done this one entirely himself. The carriage horse kerfuffle made it pretty clear he was in the pocket of the real estate industry (from the start, despite repeated requests, he refused to meet with any actual carriage drivers, which was incredibly bad optics-mayor refusing to meet with the very people he wants to put out of work), and now he’s saying he had no idea about this: http://www.thelodownny.com/leslog/2016/02…

Uh huh. Somehow the city got $16 million while the real estate crew involved got a $72 million profit. It’s bad enough the mayor is for sale, does he have to be a cheap date, too?

Ugh. It’s a low point for we Dems in the Big Apple, between the guv and Hizzoner.

I think it’s pretty well reported at this point that the investigation is focused on DeBlasio’s political action groups/slush funds, one of which operated out of City Hall. They are not regulated by campaign finance laws and have taken in six-figure donations from groups that have direct business with City Hall (teachers unions, developers, etc...).

My favorite part of the controversy so far is DeBlasio’s explanation that he shut down one of them, “the Campaign for One New York,” which was founded to promote social justice and income and housing equity in NYC, not as a response to the investigation, but because One New York’s work was done. Quick thinking Bill!

Yeah, because social justice and income and housing equity in NYC are all solved problems. Is anyone falling for that explanation?

Both Mr. Rechnitz and Mr. Reichberg served on a committee that planned Mr. de Blasio’s 2014 inaugural celebration.

This probably would have been an important piece to add, because otherwise your left guessing when all of this supposedly happened. So, it sounds like if a promise was made it was some time in between him winning and the inaugeration.

        GOOD.

Generally, I do not expend a lot of energy disliking people - this guy might be the exception.

I had not even read this article before knowing, just as I knew that exploding scarfs had to be made in China, that this has something to do with Real Estate. I’m not psychic, just well informed. It’s New York.

So basically, someone reported to the FBI that “Something shady is going on,”and then that same someone told the press that the FBI was investigating. Let me guess, there are 147 agents working on this one as well?
