I would have loved him to answer Francis Underwood as his favorite fictional president. OR George W Bush. Either answer would have been golden.

I don’t know anything about the West Wing but my favorite fictional president is Francis Underwood. What we really need is a progressive version of Underwood, a ruthless bastard who’ll stomp on Republican heads. I love Bernie and hope to vote for him in the Fall but like Obama, he’s a modern day Progressive. Meaning, he thinks he’s above the bloodsport that is American politics and would rather lose than play dirty. Modern Liberals would rather lose and have the smug self-satisfaction that comes with being above it all rather than win the way FDR, LBJ and other great liberals of the past have: by completely and utterly destroying Republicans, using every dirty, nasty evil trick in the playbook (like the great Truman calling Republicans Nazis right after the end of WWII.)

I quite like Sheen’s Greg Stilson. He knows how to fight those enemies of freedom and utterly blows them up.

The important question here is: Who will be our Johnny Smith??

(ETA: I’d go w/ Christopher Walken all over again, but for popularity sake we shoulds probably skew to a younger demographic, right?)

How else is anyone who has not been in an executive cabinet, vice president or First Lady supposed to know about the inner-workings of West Wing? Well, aside him from visiting it when it was still under construction?

You make a good point. We don’t know where Sanders was in 1813. We can only assume he was conspiring with the King since there is no historical record.

      Not so fast Mona Me.

Hillary might only be ten years older than this fellow but she is in much poorer health. I would put money on Hillary passing first.

      Among Hillary’s Ailments Are:

      1) Alcoholism

      2) Cirrhosis of The Liver

      3) History of Aneurysms

      4) Frequent Blood Clots

      5) A Horrible Diseased Brain

She is also a lifelong smoker and chews tobacco, just like Bubba.

Sanders told Raven-Symone that Martin Sheen’s work on “The West Wing” was his favorite fictional portrayal of a President, a position on this issue that solidly aligns him with the nation’s College Democrats presidents and Model UN delegates.

I just wanted to say that this is one of the most dead-on characterizations I’ve ever read on Gawker. The guy described in bold was my college roommate, and yes, I wanted to punt his head across the quad basically on a 24/7 basis.

That said, I also secretly enjoy The West Wing, mostly because Jed Bartlett was Bill Clinton minus the sleaze and horrific New Democrat-inspired horsetrading.

President Bartlet was far more centrist than Sanders. He orchestrated a bipartisan reform of Social Security (raising the retirement age), adopted a middle-of-the-road college deductibility of tuition plan, lowered taxes, was in favor of free trade, signed on to a voucher program for education, was hawkish on foreign policy (he sent troops to invade countries in Africa and Asia), ordered the assassination of a foreign official, and had a really hard time with the idea of gay marriage.
