If they had just HAD guns at the AIR FORCE base then none of this would have.....

      Oh wait.....

Um....well sure they had plenty of guns THERE but, um, if they had just had guns at that McDonalds across from the preschool 6 miles away? This never would have happened.

Are there any murder-suicides that aren’t a man killing his ex/current/would-be lady friend? Because without even reading the linked article, I’m going to take a wild guess that:

    Died by murder: female

    Died by suicide: male

      • Most of the killers in murder-suicides were men. Of the 285 suicides, 254 (89 percent) were male, 30 (11 percent) were female, and one was of unidentified gender.
      • Most of the murder-suicide victims were women. Of the 332 homicide victims, 252 (76 percent) were female, 79 (24 percent) were male, and one was of unidentified gender.

This is utterly anecdotal of course, but I’ve known two women who have shot and killed their husbands and then killed themselves (usually when the husband told her he was leaving). Maybe I just know some odd people....

      Also, Phil Hartman.

FYI: For those reading this aloud in their heads, Bexar is pronounced Bear.

      “Beh... Buh... Bee-czar? Beh-zer? Bex-er? Buhhhhhh...”

Not making light of the horrible situation in SA, but this is the way most non-Texans go through their attempts at pronouncing it before we just can’t take it anymore and yell “BEAR!!”

Wouldn’t it be nice if they did the suicide part first.

Well, there are lots of suicides every year, so you don’t actually know if there are any cases of someone just killing themselves when they were contemplating murder-suicide. So for all we know, maybe there are people who did the suicide part “first.”

Why “An active shooter opened fire” - what other kind of shooter is there? I think you could say “A person opened fire” and leave the whole weird “active shooter” phrasing out of it.

Going into the way back part of my brain from when I worked in law enforcement, “active” designates that the person is actively engaged in the process of shooting and hunting/searching for more to shoot. It indicates that the person is not yet dead and/or otherwise apprehended.

“Active shooter” is the key buzzword to get people to click. It’s like “Breaking News”.

Is the dead shooter included in the two count?

Where’s George Carlin when you need him? Dead, I know, but “active shooter” certainly seems like a “PIN number”-level redundancy all over again. And if it’s a murder-suicide, the shooter is no long active as they’re no longer shooting, it’s an inactive dead person.
