I like Scarjo more after reading this. It’s probably what J-Law meant to say.

“It’s hard for me to speak about my experience as a working woman because I can safely say my problems aren’t exactly relatable. When the Sony hack happened and I found out how much less I was being paid than the lucky people with dicks, I didn’t get mad at Sony. I got mad at myself. I failed as a negotiator because I gave up early. I didn’t want to keep fighting over millions of dollars that, frankly, due to two franchises, I don’t need. (I told you it wasn’t relatable, don’t hate me).”

She pretty much exactly said what Scarlett said.

Maybe, but all that bit in the middle not bolded, is sort of the difference. I probably remember it differently as I believe she got annihilated when she first talked about it, most likely by a lot of commenters here too. I’m a fan of Jennifer Lawrence’s but I prefer ScarJo’s simple response better. Mind you, J-Law probably started the conversation so...that’s good.

Oh hey, Coachella’s in a couple weeks. I should set up a checkpoint in Cabazon (where the outlets and the Morongo Casino are, on an Indian reservation) and inspect the car of everyone who appears to be between 18 and 40. If I find a headdress, I detain you and dump you in Joshua Tree without any water.

The Chris Evans post is curious in that art imitates life. In the Jessica Jones comic series, one story arc is Jessica tracking down a sex tape someone took of Captain America (he wasn’t aware) andusing it for blackmail purposes. She does get it back and Cap tells her how amazing she is and she should consider being a superhero again.

I say this because there are totes pictures of Chris Evans schlong out there.

Thanks for reminding me I still have Jessica Jones on netflix to watch. I’ve heard it’s uneven in terms of quality (pretty common for first seasons) but I’m still really looking forward to it.

That ScarJo earns the same as her male peers is an absolute testament to her stardom; that is a big accomplishment for a woman in Hollywood, no matter the era.

Isn’t some of the reason women earn less than men generally because women go into careers that are less lucrative?

If employers could get away with paying 70-ish cents on the dollar to a woman as opposed to a man for literally the same job, doesn’t it behoove employers to predominantly hire women? What boss doesn’t want to save money on staff expenditures? Or do they just hate women that much that they’d rather pay a man 30 cents more for the same job?

People aren’t the rational actors that are described in economics textbooks. Pretty much no corporation or company sets out to pay men more. So, they aren’t thinking of it in terms of who is the cheapest. And, frankly, that often isn’t the top priority for businesses. Because there isn’t one guy at the top reaping all the benefit from those savings.

For instance, Gawker media was paying women less than men. They are a liberal organization that certainly didn’t set out to do so. And many of their best authors with the most clicks were female (Caity, hello) so it wasn’t an accident of value. But there are so many biases in how people see value.

Well, it’s a combination. First, women are considered more incompetent than men. This has been shown in study after study. Second, they DO hire more women... for the lowest paid positions! When they determine they need someone competent for a manager position, that’s when they are ready to pay more. And someone competent translates into hiring a man. That’s why the workforce is women mainly on the bottom scrapping by, and men on the top.

Well, I read ScarJo’s point is that she’s priviledged to a certain extent. She has a voice. She has power. There are lots of women who don’t and who have the simplest things taken from them (i.e. healthcare)... so she’s not a brilliant commentator. I’m not shocked by that, and I still like her.

ScarJo brings up some good points about equal pay. It’s an important topic to talk because it affects so many women. She also addresses the fact that she does make more money then many other people.
