This is what unions are for:

    No, Hamilton, it’s not.

Unions are for protecting you from an employer who cranks up the conveyer belt speed at your meat packing plant, leading to people stabbing themselves in an effort to keep up.

Unions are for protecting the public from that same employer when the workers contaminate the cutting table with E. coli in an effort to keep up the pace.

They’re for single parents who can’t afford to lose their job for missing work when their kid gets sick.

They’re for hotel housekeepers who don’t want to work crazy hours or unpaid overtime.

You should know better, and if you don’t then you should do some research.

So, unions aren’t for protecting your job when your employer tries to fire you for speaking out against their dangerous policies?

Look at him! Just look at him! Don’t you see a man of the people?! He seems to have all the appeal of a Rob Ford of the coal mining industry.

Honest question: have there been any alternatives put out there by anyone for a generation of underemployed free-lancers? Unions have just been beaten back so deeply here and made so completely inapplicable to modern labor markets that an alternative form of mass-bargaining needs to emerge.

And in another part of West Virginia. The mining company owner, whose penny pinching and downright negligence led to 29 dead workers, received 1 year in prison and $250,000 in fines.

You didn’t have to include the “(pictured above).” In fact, you didn’t need to include the photo. You could have just said “close your eyes and picture the CEO of a West Virginia mine” and the result would have been the same.

Hey man, privatizing inner city schools is the most massive patronage boondoggle in political history, Pols on the left and the right are totally jumping on that bandwagon.

It has been truly inspiring to see both sides put aside their partisan differences and unite together to make a fuckload of money off dismantling the nation’s public education system.

Or you could always quit your job of you don’t agree to the terms of your employment. Great that we now live in a “free” country where an employer cannot fire employees for acting like disrespectful teenagers

Using labor is not a privilege, it’s an agreement between two parties
