This is like the Captain Planet of racism:

1: arrest people of color more than whites for the same drug related crimes

2: incarcerate people of color disproportionately and longer than anyone else

3: rise to prominence using historic white wealth while people of color have been historically barred from investing or owning property in this country

3a: if not from wealthy white background, enjoy evading scrutiny because white

4: use connections with predominantly white legislators to influence, bribe, or flat out corrupt them

5: get a law put in place to eliminate many people of color from any legitimate profits from drug production and sales on the basis of the racism of step 1

Okay. Another liberal article whining about African Americans being jailed at a higher rate. UGH! The prison system isn’t as bad as everyone is making it out to be! They HELP people learn and change and grow.

Honestly, I think it’s a branding issue. The word “prison” is so yucky that people have negative connotations around it when again, it’s just a place for growth! So maybe instead of “prison” we change it to “brown college”.

That way as soon as a black man turns 18, he can say he’s going to Brown!

    “University?” Only dummies will ask.

    “Brown College” he’ll say.

And everyone will be so happy for him. Because he never would have done well at a traditional university! But brown college- it has just the structure they need (more than one hour a day outside is terrible anyway-they’re tan enough already!) and just a little more paced for his intelligence and needs. We want to set those people up to succeed, don’t we?

So there is this show called 60 Days In, about a bunch of non criminal types go undercover in jail just cause, and one of them, a young stay at home mom/military spouse, said she wanted to do it because jail is an easy ride and they get food and bed and all that taken care of, unlike her military folk husband. So yeah, duh. Prison just has a perception problem.

The hat isn’t the problem. It’s how he is wearing it. If he had it tilted back, sitting more the crown, it would look fine. But sitting just hunkered down like that? Big fashion faux pas.

Hippie pot-heads can be evil capitalists, too? A drug dealer can’t be trusted to do the right thing???

Don’t you understand that everyone selling pot is doing it for the good of humanity?

Like you can have capitalism without capitalists.

A little bit about how drug laws work in CA:

Possessions are misdemeanors. Some used to be felonies, but under a new law (Prop 47) you can have any simple drug possession reduced to a misdemeanor.

California also allows for expungement of pretty much all misdemeanors after 3 years. Also California has programs such at PC 1000 that let you plead guilty and do pre-conviction probation and Prop 36 which allows a drug conviction to be expunged...even for the ones that were felonies (though they are now all misdemeanors).

So while I agree the law is to benefit this dude, it also could just be making up for the fact that a Texas felony possession just wouldn’t be the treated the same way in CA. In CA, felony drug convictions are basically drug trafficking.
