Is it me, or are we seeing a lot more of these “sovereign citizen” whackjobs as of late?

Also, jesus christ, this guy needs to be thrown into some sort of underground prison for the rest of his miserable life.

It’s a good thing my Kinja commenting history will bar me from ever becoming a judge, because I would have chucked my gavel at this monster’s face had he said that to me in court after what he’s done.

I was with you until the part about throwing the gavel at his face. That’s just silly.

There’s a chance you could miss. What you should do, obviously, is cram it down his throat.

This sent me down a rabbit hole reading about the Sovereign Citizen Movement. Which is probably my classic avoidance tactic when confronted with these brutal heartbreaking stories.

Sovereign citizens are hilarious, they get all their shit from a single passage in the articles of confederation.

It’s a hilarious to even call it a movement, since when its the law vs. sovergin citizens, the law wins. Every time. It’s more a delusion people take shelter in.

I’ve heard of the Sovereign Citizen movement being called a “cargo cult” and the description is apt. They seriously believe the legal system can be dealt with by using the correct incantations: “That flag has fringe!” Or... “I am john Smith the person, not JOHN SMITH the corporate entity and the charges are against my corporate entity. I choose not to do business with this court,” and the judge will helplessly crumple in the face of their spell. “Oh shit, he knows about the fringe! Better let him go.”

Totally. It appeals both to people who want the world to “make sense” in a very black and white way, and to people who are literally looking for magic spells to make their problems go away.

As you say, incantations is the exact right word to use.

Who said they chose? The may have chosen to have the child, but not sure what occurred before that.

Oh please. Unless he’s the actual Immortan Joe and these were his slaves these women knowingly associated with an abusive pedophile and made the decision to have kids with him.

In my experience as a bona-fide Earth human, they we don’t normally refer to ourselves as “natural born humans.” That sounds more like what aliens like me would say.

Omgggggggggg whenever one of these stories pop up I’m always like “How did the neighbors NOT KNOW” but then I think about some of the houses on my street and I honestly have no clue who lives there or what they’re up to. Then this happens in a town close by and I’m just horrified.

The people in the apartment across the hall have been blasting music really loudly in the evenings lately and the other day it crossed my mind: “they could be murdering someone and we would never know”

Surprised that he didn’t add that he was a man walking on dry land with not a drop of water in sight. Because the court only has jurisdiction over admiralty (i.e. maritime law) cases. Because of the fringe on the flag.

(I used to work for a federal court dealing with this stuff. I've seen it all.)

What an absolute shit heap of a person. I sure hope that all 7 of his children (how?! who??) are getting top-notch therapy. And these poor women. If this guy isn’t locked up for the rest of his life, there’s no justice in the world.
