I’m curious, after we liberated Iraq from tyranny, and gave Iraqis the right to vote in a democracy, did we require photo identification at the polls?

If not, I suggest we invade Wisconsin next

The liberal counter argument to these tactics hinges on the lack of any evidence there is a problem with voter fraud. I wonder, though, how that is even knowable if there is no requirement to present a government-issued identification.

I’m not trying to justify voter suppression, nor do I have even the slightest of lingering doubts about the motivations behind these tactics, mind you.

Even though you aren’t trying to suppress minority voters, that’s exactly what your doing though. Many minority people can’t get to an area where you would get an ID and they take buses or other forms of transportation. Not everyone can afford a car. So this is your classic minority voter suppression tactics from a monetary standpoint.

Most studies indicate that after the Richard Daley Sr. days of Chicago, voter fraud is pretty much non-existent.

Let’s be fair; the GOP found about at LEAST as much voter fraud as they have (1) weapons of mass destruction (2) legitimate studies debunking climate change (3) evidence that Planned Parenthood are creating little fetus-Frankensteins in underground labs.

OK, “active chemical weapons program of the variety that would have supported the rationale for Operation Enduring Clusterfuck, and not rusty, corroded, unusable stockpiles from the Iraq/Iran War era.”

Gotta love how the media is treating Sanders’ victory as a non story. MSNBC was elated that Ted Cruz won, but all color left their tanned smug faces when discussing Bernie’s win last night. Absolutely pathetic. You would have thought Bernie was the second gunman at Sandyhook from watching MSNBC last night.

      Here’s the thing:

Clinton leads Sanders by 209 delegates. There are 1664 delegates remaining. To outright lead the pledged delegate count for the nomination, Sanders needs to win the remaining contests by a 56.3 - 43.7 margin. He has to do this with the Pacific Northwest and the Midwest (his strongest regions) already accounted for. Clinton has been strong in the Northeast, and there’s a whole slate of contests there that haven’t been held yet.

The Republican side is much more interesting, because it probably will go down to the wire. No one is going to overtake Trump in total delegates, but assuming he wins the Northeast (likely), he still needs a victory in California to win the nomination outright. California is the last primary. And if he doesn’t win the nomination outright, there will be some pretty amazing fireworks at the convention.

Just to clear up some of the “confusion” among certain trolls in the gray, it’s not that Wisconsinites need an ID to vote, it’s that they need a very specific type of ID to vote. Someone can get on a plane with an out of state ID, they can buy beer with their (state-issued) student ID, and an expired license can be used to get into any bar in the state (just kidding, we don’t check IDs here).

However, NONE of those IDs can be used to vote. Are you from Minnesota and in WI for college and haven’t changed your drivers license? Too bad. Did you get a speeding ticket in Michigan and were forced to turn over your license because you didn’t have the $100 in cash for the ticket? Too bad. Do you go to school in one of the urban areas and don’t have a drivers license and just use your student ID for everything? Too bad.

So please, give me a fucking break about how “everyone has an ID these days”, since yes, everyone DOES have an ID. They just can’t use it to vote because WI purposely wants to suppress voting among young people, urbanites, people of color, etc.

But of course, since this is Wisconsin, you *can* use your concealed carry license to vote because dumb redneck hicks are more likely to vote Republican...

Just to clear a few things up:

Wisconsin allows expired DOT-issued IDs to vote, as long as the expiration date was after the most recent general election.

They also allow unexpired IDs from a Wisconsin-accredited university, college, or technical school.

Also, if your DOT license was suspended or revoked, either a citation or notice of intent to revoke said license dated within 60 days of the date of election is acceptable.

Close, they allow “unexpired IDs from a Wisconsin-accredited university, college or technical school” ONLY as long as they comply with new regulations such as an address and an expiration date. So if you got your student ID last year and it didn’t have that on it, you’re fucked unless you go get a new one printed.

Still doesn’t change the fact that you could use the old IDs for buying alcohol, or an out-of-state license for getting on a plane...

And does Wisconsin provide these photo IDs free of charge and during hours not limited to 8:30am to 4:45pm M-F?

You bet your ass they don’t...I just looked it up on their website.

I don’t understand why these two things would be a problem because according to what conservatives tell us.

      1. None of these people work, or even spend their time looking for work. So the hours listed should be plenty of time for them to get this taken care of.

      2. Since, all of these people are living high off the hog on welfare and other entitlement programs, spending a few bucks to get an ID shouldn’t be a problem.

As is typical, both Dems and Repubs are engaging in moral posturing while serving their own interests. It benefits the Democrats to claim that no safeguards are needed because no one is abusing the system. It benefits the Republicans to claim the opposite. Neither side knows or cares what the facts are.

Neither side will ask the one obvious, honest, reasonable, sane question: “How do we enforce voting laws without accidentally disenfranchising certain groups?” And they certainly won’t work together to find the answer.

I don’t know what the equivalent of Gawker is for the Right. But I guarantee you that site has a mirror image of this article somewhere in its archives. It’ll be an article about some Democrat who accidentally spilled the beans, admitting that they benefit from non-citizens voting.

Both sides are cynically manipulative on this issue. Neither side wants to know the truth or find a fair solution. Until we hold BOTH sides accountable, instead of demonizing their guys and excusing ours, this nonsense will continue.

Both sides, B.S. The most important and frequent historic cause of vote fraud is with absentee ballots, which the GOP has expanded because it helps them. There is no evidence of a significant problem and they have looked. So you think there’s a bizarro Gawker, send me a link because I make my decisions based on evidence.

I don’t have the Bizarro Gawker link. I hate reading self-righteous conservative sites even more than I hate reading self-righteous liberal sites. But if you decide based on evidence, you’ve noticed that the Democrats do nothing to ensure that only citizens vote. Or am I wrong? Feel free to show me articles about Democrats calling for enforcement of the law that only citizens may vote. I’ll decide based on the evidence.
