As a Republican, I feel a greater need each time this guy opens his mouth to apologize. This clown can't be the nominee.

This plan is fucking evil. Period. And it’s absolutely pure Trump in that it’s not necessarily intended to be evil but his mix of can’t be wrong and lack of foresight is how a sad narcissist in character can prove to be an evil monster in action.

Evil or not, it’s genius. It’s basically blackmail and he’s trying to get what he wants by hitting them where it hurts. I’m sure his next step is to force Mexico to build it for us when they don’t take the deal the first time around...

(I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s crazy and he’s an asshole, but it’s inventive and you can’t say he’s not doing what he said he’d do with regards to paying for the wall...)

You’re not wrong, I suppose that seriously considering an idea that a moral person would immediately dismiss is a hallmark of the evil genius trope. As are unexpected and terrible consequences.

Also, not within the Federal Government’s power to do. But hey, details.

Sorry, buddy. The Federal Government and specifically the office of the President is only a powerless figurehead when there’s a Democrat in the White House. Trump is (kinda) a Republican, so it’ll be back to the POTUS being “the decider” and having powers roughly equivalent to Caesar.

I was at a panel on the future of the regulatory state today and someone asked a question detailing this plan and asking, more or less, if this was a something the administrative state could be used to do.

None of the panelists had heard this yet, and, as a result, there was loud laughter and one of them saying something to the effect of “there is literally no way that is Constitutional.”

Has anyone yet asked for comment from any one of the numerous American companies who have manufacturing centers in Mexico, manufacture products to sell to Mexican consumers, or anyone else who does business in and with Mexico? I’d love to hear their thoughts on antagonizing an entire country.

Like when he calls people sending the money they earned by doing work to their families to support their children and relatives “de facto welfare”. Does it matter that that makes no sense at all? No, it’s people his supporters don’t like getting money, so it’s “welfare”.

Well to be fair if he’s going to bankrupt Mexico’s poor to build this wall, they’re not going to lose all that much money when they go bankrupt because they’re already poor.

It’s all just a matter of perspective and that’s the “glass half full” kind of guy I am.

The best part about completely bankrupting Mexico’s poor to build that wall is that Mexico’s poor will be so desperate at that point that they might find a way to en masse destroy said wall just so they can find work in the U.S. to send money back home so their families don’t starve.

It’s all got a sort of morbid poetry to it.

His plan to build the very stupid wall is very big. One of the biggest. You’ve never seen anything like it. He has the best people on it. The best. And they’re people! Real ones. Americans. Real Americans! White ones. White like you’d never believe. The whitest. Just great, white people. You’ve never seen people so white. Oh it’s incredible, it’s incredible. Just a fantastic group of guys. They love America. They love him. And they should! He’s the smartest guy in every room. All the rooms. All the doubters, the doubters, they’re losers. Sad!
