I get why they’re taking her depo... but I seriously call into question how much weight her testimony will be given by a finder of fact. She’s a liar of the highest order; her propensity for dishonesty is HUGE. How do you trust this person ever again?

My hunch is someone is trying to get her to perjure herself.

I agree—but to what end? It’s already an irrefutable matter of record that she’s a super liar.

I wish there were an option where the judge could allocate the moneys to a charity or something. You know...if both parties just suck.

The deposition records and transcripts will be sealed, however, meaning that her full name won’t be publicly available.

    Seems pretty fair, tbh.

It’s more than fair. There are no facts that I’m aware suggesting that she was, in fact, a victim and is entitled to protections afforded victims of crime. Nonetheless, I’m glad that judge is being cautious.

This is the right decision. Of course her testimony is relevant to their case. In my opinion, she’s lucky they are sealing the deposition. I have yet to see any facts which suggest she was, in fact, a victim of anything. That being said, it’s always good to be cautious and I applaud the judge for finding a nice balance here.

I think even if you do assume she hasn’t been a victim of anything (which is a pretty big assumption, just generally) there’s still a lot of reason to believe she’d be unnecessarily endangered by revealing her identity.

Pretty sure that’s a burn, not shade. They’d have to say something other than “malicious” and “faltering” to make it shade as that’s pretty blatant insulting.

But if this is an attempt to get Shade Court back (by not knowing what shade is and isn’t), keep on keeping on ;)

Her serial lies apparently included telling the guy she seems to have made the rape story up to impress (?)) that she had chronic Lyme disease and was dying.

I’m totally fine with her having to testify in open court to anything and everything. Disease fakers are among the dregs of humanity.

Well, a lot of people at this age lose their mind a little in college, and occasionally someone tips over the edge. I remember a young woman when I was in college faked her own abduction, and turned up in a field with self-inflicted rope burns on her wrists and ankles. People were pretty angry with her at the time; in retrospect, she was obviously in a really dark place and just didn’t have the faculties or support network to keep her grounded. A professional journalist should have been a lot more careful, though.

It was lupus, actually. Not that it matters—-the disease she actually has is sociopathy, which unfortunately is not fatal.

It breaks my heart to see posters on here shit-talking the dean; she’s a true victim in all of this. The non-rightwing media has done a crappy job publicizing the enormity of Jackie’s lies. Anyone who reads Jackie’s text messages in the filings can see how mendacious and calculating she is.

Her actions have set rape victims back decades.

Does she really need to testify though? I seem to recall that she didn’t want to be part of the story anyway and the journalist failed to listen to her. And they all have records of that as well.

That is untrue. Read the Columbia school of journalism report on the original article. It’s well written and a good read.

Something happened to this woman, it is very obvious that she suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. When you experience trauma, the facts about your trauma are not always clear. That’s why people can be assaulted and not say anything for 13 years, then one day their memory comes back and they realize that something bad did happen to them. Just because Rolling Stone wrote a poorly researched article doesn’t mean that rape culture at colleges, specifically frats, does not exist.

Does that make it ok to falsify facts about people who didnt cause the trauma that created her increased tendency to lie?

You realize that even when trauma causes memory lapses, it doesn’t then fill in the blanks with fake information then use that fake information to catfish a romantic interest.
