A rare showing of what “corporate responsibility” really means. Good on PayPal.

I’m very excited to see companies stepping up to the plate for some basic human rights with recent boycotts or boycott threats.

It’s sad that this is what it has to come to, but... this is what it has to come to. It will mostly screw over people who probably don’t have very strong feelings about the bill one way or the other, but you need to make the literal and figurative cost of bigotry high to shake people out of that complacency.

Just like half a century ago, we will drag these people into progress kicking and screaming if we have to. We don’t negotiate with terrorists or temper tantrums.

And before people respond (I’m looking at you grays) that I’m being fascist or some such, no. The people we’re dragging are allowed to live their lives however they please; they can be hate-filled bigots their entire life and lambaste whatever group of people they feel like. But they do not get to codify that bigotry into law.

It’s going to be fun when these states lose all this business AND won’t even have their bigotry bills to console them after federal courts gavel that shit into the sun.

The sad part is that this is the only way this kind of legislature will be defeated. Because for the right wing it goes like this....

At least it’s money in the form of well-paying jobs and tax revenue. The legislatures themselves won’t be making money off PayPal or any of the other companies mentioned.

Sad but also about time - for years various backwards groups have tried to put the squeeze on corporations for actions/beliefs/support those groups disagreed with. PayPal's decision is just the same, and seems to be the only way to defeat bigotry.

McCrory is doubling down on this law in the face of millions of lost dollars for NC and an Indiana-circa-2015 level of backlash. He must not want to continue his career after this term because he is committing political suicide. Just look at what happened to Pence (may he burn in governor hell, the jerkwad).

Not that I’m complaining, he seems like a terrible governor.

I love this. This is movement and this is change. 10 years ago I'm not sure these businesses would have had the guts. It is our new norm to protect the rights of the lgbtq community, I know I know there is more to do. But let's take a minute to enjoy watching North Carolina squirm

While Georgia has a lot of studios / film / television business, North Carolina has a lot of tech companies moving to the state from the west / pacific northwest because it’s cheaper. Raleigh / Durham has a TON already.

(they'll pick money. and therefore accidently do the right thing for once)
