Does this mean we can stop talking about whether Beyoncé understands feminism or not? Like... she gets it, okay?

It’s kind of sad that she even had to explain “Formation” but what she had to say about that was good as well. I also appreciate that she started with an “If [...] made anyone uncomfortable” statement and DIDN’T apologize for it.

Did you read her second quote though? I don’t thinks she understands feminism that well, or humanism for that matter.

Yep - was really bother by “women have the same rights as men...” comment. No, we don’t. That’s the point. Take a look at grown ass adults swearing at a nine year-old because it’s not appropriate for her to be (and want to be) a reporter. Please.

Working to make those inequalities go away is being a feminist, but more importantly, it makes me a humanist.

Can we please stop using the word “humanist” if we’re not actually talking about Humanism? Because there’s nothing wrong with being a Humanist, but it means something different from what the majority of celebrities who use the word as a descriptor of equality think it means.

It’s also really irritating because even if we allow for a new meaning which is basically “all humans should have equal rights and opportunities,” that’s still so infuriatingly “all lives matter” and “what about the menz"!!

If celebrating my roots and culture during Black History Month made anyone uncomfortable, those feelings were there long before a video and long before me.

Snoooooze. She’s reciting carefully crafted—and possibly focus-grouped—statements. It would be amazing to hear something vaguely authentic or spontaneous come out of her mouth for once. I wish some reporter would just do some kind of real interviewing for once. Not that Beyoncebot and team would allow anything like that...

What exactly did you want her to say? Are they not good answers? Are they not clear? Do you want her to sound like an idiot or scream fuck the police even if that’s not how she truly feels?

I don’t have a problem with the content (expect for the misuse of “humanist”). I simply would like for her to sit down and talk with someone for real one time. Like, converse and answer questions organically in real time.

As opposed to vetting questions in advance and having a team of PR specialists write perfectly-crafted responses that she then memorizes and spits out. You know, act like a human being, not just a branded entity.

It still blows me away that a black person, Beyonce or not, who dares to make the request, “Stop shooting us!” is considered anti-police by anyone.

If your stance is antithetical to “stop shooting black people,” that doesn’t make you pro-police, it makes you a pro-murdering black people asshole.

Black people dare to ask to be allowed to live, and they’re considered radical.

    SMDH forever.

Only real way to get the cops to stop shooting people is to disarm them or disallow the use of lethal force in all situations where they are not being directly fired upon.

Yeah, I feel like claiming that “anti-police brutality” means “anti-police” just means that the person making such a claim accepts that police = brutality, which, if you’re trying to defend the police, is a very very bad look.

Because if it’s just question and answer, it could have happened over email.

I mean, I would hope that we all realize that those Vogue interviews are never exactly what J-Law happened to say when she and Plum were just chatting over some casual hiking and post-workout cob salads. Most people, celebrities included, don’t speak in perfectly grammatically correct, fully formed thought paragraphs. Even if this is emailed in, it’s probably not that different.

The times I’ve had the chance to “interview” celebrities it’s pretty much all the same. Emails are exchanged, questions sent, and their team sends back a set of responses that I always call the “Photoshop of Interview Questions”.

They say celebrities have answered the questions, but there have been so many times where I've caught a confusion of words. All of the responses are pristine, gorgeous, and brimming with blah.

It’s pretty clear this was not a sit down interview and that the answers were very carefully crafted and drafted. This is the only Beyonce you will ever get again. Gone are the days of her shady looks at her groupmates during interviews and any off the cuff responses.

That’s a queen sitting on her throne, while her advisors deal with the unwashed masses.

I like her responses though. They’re clear and concise. Also note she’s said nothing about an album and her tour is fast approaching. Bey about to drop a greatest hits album with three extra songs.

Not so sure about that. She supposedly has a song and video coming with the parents of a few of the parents of people killed by police in the last year.

It may not be true, but if it is ... I’m interested in seeing what it’ll be.

Shiiiit. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t pass the “Are You Really, Really A Feminist? Really?!” litmus test around here.

The BS is mostly reserved for Beyonce, Nicki M, etc

On this site Kim K, Amy S, Miley, Taylor, and J-Law need no clarifications- they’re automatically feminist.

Right?!! Is it an age thing? Are they just young and eager to prove they’re better feminists by pointing out her alleged errors re humanism v. feminism? Because it’s coming across as really immature, petty and presumptuous AF.

i’ve never understood why people thought it was anti police in the first place.

tbh ive loved beyonce forever (saw destinys child in concert three times) but im so over this complete worship/stanning of her. speculation about ‘how’ elle managed to get this interview? she’s an artist about to go on a world tour and drop an album. she’s doing promo. like every other celeb/musician out there. and i’m not over her in that coldplay video and everyone giving her a fucking pass over it because shes beyonce and can do no wrong

I get it though, because the police are super sensitive right now. I know some good officers who just changed careers because they didn’t feel safe/were caught up in the mistakes of others. But I don’t think the video is anti-police. 1. The New Orleans police after Katrina abandoned the city. 2. The officers don’t shoot the kid.
