Uhm, I think Backstreet Boys fans are millennials.

I was thinking the same thing. By the most generous estimates, the youngest Gen Xers were born in 1981. That would have made them about 15 when the Backstreet Boys’ first album came out. I was 16 when Backstreet Boys blew up, and I don’t remember any of my friends being into them (certainly not any of my older friends). But my sister who’s 4 years younger was all about them. Definitely a millennials thing—but the older millennials for sure.

Gen Xers are too old for all of these acts. This is definitely for the older millennial sect like myself thanks.

My gen X sister grew up with NKOTB and Madonna. Remember, Xers are all pushin’, if not already, in their 40s

We’re already there. Quite a ways in there in some cases.

Haha yeah, my sister is 40, my brother 39, his wife 37. The youngest Xers are 36 now.

This story highlights the fact that there is a large, unnamed gap between Gen X and the Millennials. No self-respecting Gen-Xer (an oxymoron, perhaps) would be a fan of the Backstreet Boys. And Millennials (I think) are too young to appreciate them.

I think you are correct, because I fall right into that gap.

Me too! Although apparently GenX now includes people born as late as 1981 (according to a comment above). I always thought that I was at the tail end of Gen X (more like a little sister that always wanted to be included in that wonderful club, but was too young and eager). I am now (almost) 40.

Yes, Kevin is the hottest one now, but AJ was the hottest during the group’s early days (pre-rehab).

I was always partial to Nick for no reason I can recall now.

For a hot (and confused but happy) second, I thought you meant BSB, Mariah, and J Lo were all going to be performing together and my head exploded.

I want to mock this, but hasn’t Celine Dion also booked at Vegas? More power to them. Who knows. If this works, maybe we’ll see the return of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.

I am amused by your apparent belief that just because Celine Dion does something, it is not to be mocked.

I could care less about both groups. But from an “artist” standpoint, people hold Celine in higher regard than the BSB. At least most Canadians do.

I saw them at Ravinia on their first reunion tour right after I graduated college. I don't know if it was the 4000 bottles of wine we brought or the nostalgia factor but it was AWESOME.

I love the Backstreet Boys. A lot. I think anyone who comments about them without having any idea about the kind of music they have been making is a narrow-minded loser. Why do these opinionated, judgmental people still even exist?

Their music have always impacted my life in a positive way, not to mention millions of other lives. Being judgmental about that, just because you don’t like them, is just pathetic. And YES, Kevin’s presence IS an important detail and I WAS concerned. I’m sorry you felt the need to make fun of that.

And I find it kinda sad that you had to namedrop Kurt Cobain to prove that you couldn’t care less about pop music and you are a rock person. Again, why does this type of person still exist? If you don’t like them, don’t report on them, but why bash the people who do like them?

I don't really listen to them anymore (beyond a few of the hits in their heyday), but Kevin re-joined the group a long time ago. There were definitely a couple of years when they were a foursome (I think right around the time they did a tour with NKOTB), but he later re-joined the group. He was definitely in the documentary that I saw maybe 2 years ago.

So with Mariah, Britney, and BSB now doing Vegas shows to appeal to nostalgia, who do we think from the 2000s will go to the strip in a decade?

I love Katy Perry but this has her name all over it.

My friends and I are going to Vegas for a birthday extravaganza next year and TBH, this show would be pretty fun if we were spectacularly drunk. Which we almost certainly will be.
