DAMMIT CANADA, JUST RUB IT IN OUR FACES WHY DON’T YOU?!

You guys. I am so fucking tired of having to fight for our basic constitutional right to bodily autonomy. SOS send cute animal gifs please and thank you.

ETA: Sorry I’m a grouch. The assholes that I counterprotest outside of PP every Thursday are getting worse and worse every week.

I was obsessed with L.M. Montgomery as a tween/teen, and I’ve always wanted to go to PEI. It makes me incredibly sad that they didn’t allow bodily autonomy for women until 20 fucking 16. Though to be fair, complete lack of access isn’t much different than multiple U.S. states at the moment.

You should go! I went last summer for 10 days and loved it.

Really quiet and peaceful, plus great mussels and oysters.

I live in BC, and have recently chosen to undergo a surgical termination of a very wanted baby due to fetal non-viability.

Though this experience is pretty much the shittiest thing that has ever happened to me, I cannot for the life of me IMAGINE if I had to travel hundreds of kilometers, away from support systems and safe places, to have the same done. And the added insult of paying for travel on top of it? Unreal.

Good on you, PEI, for finally recognizing that women have a right to basic health care. I cry (like, literally ugly crying) to think of how, in other “advanced” countries, womens’ right to their own bodily autonomy is being systematically stripped away.

I’m so sorry. Here is a cute animal. I had an abortion well before I knew how good we have it in Canada, and am so grateful for our access.

Thank-you. I’m constantly stunned that our access is an aberration in the Americas. The non-judgemental care that I’ve been fortunate enough to receive really ought to be the model providers aspire to.

We catch up eventually. You know, a few decades later. If we have to. I guess. (God bless the Internet, I’d have gone even crazier by now without it. Not that there aren’t progressives here on Prince Edward Island, but the world view here can be limited.)

This is great and all, but I’m kind of floored that it took 25 years for it to occur to someone to threaten a lawsuit and when it was threatened the response was “oh, okey dokey then, here’s your abortions!” On both ends, that’s the exact opposite of how things go down in the us.

it is pretty crazy although due to the population there probably wasnt a great demand. its an island with roughly 145k people, lets assume half are women and another half to be of age to get an abortion, thats roughly 35k women (and even less so in previous years). with 1 in 3 women getting abortions thats like 10k a year, a underwhelming amount.

still props for finally getting it done.
