“It didn’t happen, and if it did happen it wasn’t that bad, and if it was that bad then the guy who did is still a great guy and why should he have to be punished for a mistake.”

It’s amazing the way every time a woman claims abuse, the same script gets trotted out to deny it.

It’s because it’s incredibly effective, especially with the people who make up Trump’s base.

Since she worked for Breitbart, I’m surprised he didn’t try to imply that she must be a masochist and probably enjoyed the rough handling.

Lewandowski should try this case. He should put 12 in the box. He could be acquitted outright — or, at the very least, hang the jury — on an implied consent theory. The theory is like rough, even really brutal, action, in soccer or football: scuffles and such are, at least as a matter of law, seen as part of the game. Do you think every vicious slide tackle, or straight up punch in hockey, is met with charges. Of course not. Corey: try your case. Do not plead out. Better to be judged by 12 than carried out by sex.

Try to separate your confirmation bias for your hatred of the rule of law. It won’t be easy for you, but you can do it! I believe in you.

And I’m voting for Rand Paul, which is a loser but I’m voting my conscience. (And yes, I’m aware, and not happy about, his stance on gay marriage. Maybe he’ll change like Hillary does every fortnight.)

Well, step 6 is either A) Countersue for defemation and completely ruin this woman’s life in the event she loses her court battle or, B) Tell everyone that your campaign manager is a liar, and you only defended him because you trusted what he said, and then fire him publicly at a campaign rally.

There is no losing for the Donald, because there’s always someone to take the fall.

So when there's a video showing that something happened it didn't happen, but when there's not a video of, oh I don't know, muslims cheering in New Jersey for 9/11, it did happen?

      Not a Trump supporter.

Did you honestly see something in the video that would cause the type of bruise that Fields had?

Does she show signs of being in pain in the video that would be commensurate with the bruise that she has? Why would she try to hide the amount of pain she is in?

Does she lose credibility with the “I almost fell down” bit? She doesn’t even seem to have her center of gravity changed?

Did she start this claim not knowing that video would come out?

The movie Gaslight stars Joseph Cotton and Jennifer Jones. Angela Lansbury is also in it. It’s really good! It’s about a con artist who convinces his wife she’s going crazy so he can take her money. I won’t tell you how he’s caught, but it’s right there in the title of the movie.

Trump is lying about Fields, but he’s not really gaslighting her because she’s not convincing her she’s wrong or crazy.

If Trump is gaslighting anyone, it’s the American public, all of whom should be suspicious that they've gone crazy and are imagining this whole Trump thing.

Not to gaslight you, but Jennifer Jones isn’t in Gaslight; Ingrid Bergman is the female lead.

Jones and Cotten did, however, star together in Portrait Of Jennie, which is pretty darn spooky its own self.

Her face didn’t change and she didn’t scream immediately? There are people that have been shot that don’t realize it for hours. There are people that walk into the store with a 9 inch knife sticking out of their back that don’t realize it.

The whole “her face didn’t change” thing is the most ridiculous part of the gaslighting to me, because you can actually only see the back of her head in the tape after Lewandowski grabs her.

Agree with the overall thrust of this piece, but the headline reminds me yet again of how annoying it is to watch words get farther and farther away from their actual meaning in our culture, until their misuse becomes acceptable and in some cases, increasingly the actual new meaning.

“Gaslighting” is one of those words that once had a very specific meaning, like “literally” and “verbiage”. In the past few years, it’s become really popular to misuse all three.

“...I would think how words go straight up in a thin line, quick and harmless, and how terribly doing goes along the earth, clinging to it, so that after a while the two lines are too far apart for the same person to straddle from one to the other; and that sin and love and fear are just sounds that people who never sinned nor loved nor feared have for what they never had and cannot have until they forget the words.”

(Granted, Faulkner is talking about the difference between words and actions, not the semantic drift caused by widespread misuse of language. And in some way it cheapens what is a devastatingly powerful line, but nevertheless I can’t help but think of that quote when I see words abused.)

(Also: “literally” basically becoming a contranym with its accepted colloquial use is what made me give up on being a pedantic grammar nazi. Or: how I learned to stop worrying and love verbiage.)

Wait! We are all missing that the TRUE victim in this shit show is really Donald Trump:

...But she grabs my arm and you see me trying to push her hand off my arm. She’s got a pen in her arm, which she’s not supposed to have... Maybe I should file charges against her. Maybe I should say my arm has never been the same.” - Fox News, 3/30

“She was asking me questions. She wasn’t supposed to...

“It looks like he’s trying to push her hand off my arm. She shouldn’t have been grabbing me. When you say it’s okay for her to touch me but somebody else can’t touch her, you think that’s ok? I don’t think so....Secret Service doesn’t want people running up to me and grabbing me with a pen in her hand.” - Good Morning America 3/30

“She touched me. She grabbed me by the arm at least twice. Screaming questions.” - Today Show 3/30

    (Fuck this guy)
