This is horrible, but I wonder if there’s any proof she was targeted for being trans, instead of just for being a woman.

Not going to jump to conclusions because obviously I don’t have all the information, but even if he isn’t a rapist, he should still be arrested because that suit is a crime all on its own.

I imagine being raped is unpleasant, but having it done by someone wearing that is a slap in the face.

Christ. I read this and thought, wait someone raped someone at confederate solider memorial. The Fuck is Happening.

Not that it is any better at a hotel, but it does reduce the shock factor.

I am not gay, but my friends of the gay community, here on Gawker, can confirm that this bar was at the forefront of the movement in the 70's and 80's, if I’m not mistaken.

Ok, I’m asking because I’m a bit confused. When the article says it was a trans woman, does that mean she was a biological male who transitioned to female? Or a biological female who transitioned to male?

A transwoman is someone who was born biologically male(or indeterminate) and transitioned to female.

He raped a trans woman at the Stonewall Inn? That's like peeing in the holy water at church.

Well, no, because trans people are real and holy water is a pretend label people apply to regular water to pretend it’s special.

I think it’s mounted in the hallway and is monitoring the doors leading to the restrooms. (When I owned a restaurant, I had cameras mounted outside the doors that led to my unisex single occupancy restrooms. Single occupancy gives a nice degree of privacy but unfortunately that seclusion can provide the opportunity for crimes like this one to occur.)

Based on what’s visible in the pictures shown, I think it’s in a non-invasive location and for safety reasons.

First of all, before anything else, we must acknowledge that what happened here is horrible. A sexual assault of any kind whether it be a transgendered female or not is awful. I tend to think there is so much more anger involved with the assault of a transgender person, and that to me makes it worse. Don’t worry. It’s my weird mind. Not yours.

However, the whole “transgender people are not a threat, but they are threatened” statement misses the point entirely of the people who want to argue over whether using the bathroom of your ‘preferred gender’ should be allowed.

It’s not the actual transgender people that are the threat and that are causing people to worry. Its not where the legal issue would lie. It’s with people who would use the ability to walk into their biologically opposite gender bathroom to do nefarious things, when they AREN’T transgender at all. There WILL be people that use it as an excuse to be in there when they shouldn’t be, and since transgenderism comes with an incredible lack of understanding about what leads to it, there is absolutely nothing that anyone can do to prove one way or the other that the person actually IS in that position. Even if you could, even if you could find a gene or a hormone or whatever that proved that transgenderism was an inherited thing or a genetic thing or a hormonal thing, what are you going to do with that information? Demand to see their papers? Maybe mark them with an inverted triangle with a distinctive color to differentiate them from people who DON’T genetically or chemically have such an issue?

You’re right, transgender folks are no more a threat to people than anyone else, but its the ACTUAL PERVERTS that will use laws designed to protect others to allow them access to things they shouldn’t have access to. Find a solution to that, and let’s move forward.

No one is talking about people being allowed to use the bathroom of their preferred gender. People are upset because laws like North Carolina’s are being passed to prevent people from using the bathrooms that correspond with their actual gender, forcing men to use women’s bathrooms and women to use men’s bathrooms.

No. They aren’t. They are passing laws that make you use the bathroom of the gender you were born as. Not that hard to figure out. It IS hard to figure out how to let those that aren’t biologically born whatever gender they feel like they truly are live exactly how they want without opening the door to actual perverts who want to take advantage of the law that allows one to do so. Its a difficult thing to figure out without violating privacy of those who ARE ACTUALLY TRANSGENDER. I get it. It sucks. It’s also the world we live in. It’s not Transgender folks who are the issue in general. It is sick people who would take advantage and use it as a way to gain access to a place they shouldn’t have access to. That’s what we have to prevent, and the answer isn’t that simple. You know that, but you want to simplify it to a much more black and white issue because, frankly, you’re a fucking simpleton.

The fact of the matter is that none of this fucking matters. I don’t know how most people operate in the bathroom, but I get in, I do my business, and I get the fuck out. I don’t sit there and check out everyone’s genitals as I’m in there. If you’re a transgender man and you want to take a piss in the men’s bathroom, no one is going to make you whip out your junk and prove you have the same dick you were born with. If you’re a transgender woman, go into the stall, sit down, do your business, and get the fuck out of there. No one is in there poking at your groin to see if their finger gets caught in a vajayjay. If you look like a woman or man and carry yourself as one, no one is going to question it
