    Beauty Open Thread!

Trying out some new stuff because Target had a Buy $20 in skin care, get a $5 gift card, AND they’re starting to carry Pacifica. I love their mascara, especially the water resistant. I haven’t really been able to wear mascara for years, and this stuff stays on and doesn’t irritate my eyes.

So I tried this cleanser (green). It foams a bit, and it is a deep cleanser, so it’s not something I’ll use daily, but I think I’m going to try the other one (blue). I bought the body lotion in Blood Orange. Yuck. Love Blood Orange, but this stuff just smells like cheap soap. However, it worked really well, so it’ll be the nighttime foot lotion.

Good loot! I’ll have to go to Target and take a look!

I mentioned it in an earlier post, but I got perfume samples from Surrender to Chance (thank you Julianne and also damn you). Santal 33 and Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, both of which are to die for (and I’m not even a huge perfume person).

Does anyone have a favorite highlighter/luminizer? I am in the market for a new one! Thanks!!!

Last week, during your open thread, someone suggested a particular shade of an Hourglass blush. I tried it, and HOLY SMOKES it’s perfect.

Thank you internet stranger! You suggested “Diffuse Heat” and it’s perfect.

For months now, some assholes on some forum called “GOMI” have been harassing the shit out of Jez regulars.

You may have noticed Cady Cumberbatch, STElizabeth, Yoga Nerd and others have vanished.

This is because of the lies and harassment inflicted on them by the GOMI fuckwits.

They’ve been threatening Kenny for days, followed quickly by begging him to stop being so unafraid of them.

Now they’re threatening me with whatever.

Feel free to consider me to be a litmus test: If they can’t actually do anything to me, when I make my real name so readily available, they probably can’t actually do anything to you either.

Have a great Saturday night, errbody. :)

Kenny stood up to them and they ran like kicked dogs, so now they’re focusing on me.

Whoever these chickenshits decide to entertain themselves with next should know how to respond too.

So the other day, I had the pleasure of meeting an odd breed of anti-vaxxer.

I was volunteering at my local animal shelter and posting up flyers for this lost dog, and the woman I was working with told me all about how terrible vaccines are for dogs and dogs don’t actually need them and how it is bullshit that the law requires a rabies vaccine because no dog owner should be forced to vaccinate their dog. She asked me when was the last time I heard of a dog getting rabies. Well duh, no dogs are getting rabies anymore! We have a rabies vaccine! But skunks and raccoons still fucking get it and your dog can get it from them if they don’t have a vaccine! Then she told me she went through 5 vets because they all kept telling her that she should vaccinate her dogs.

    WHAT THE FUCK!?

How is it that a fraudulent study that was done on humans has somehow spilled over into the pet world? It’s not just dogs apparently. People aren’t vaccinating their horses or cats either.

I get maybe wanting to try a holistic approach with your pets in addition to medicine. Acupuncture is apparently great for dogs with arthritis. But fucking get your pets vaccinated.

    GIF

Anyone ever met a pet anti-vaxx nut? Or does anyone have any cute pet pics to share so I can see that there is still good in this world?

I love (read: hate) that argument of ‘who needs vaccines, no one’s getting the diseases anymore anyway!’ If you say that you’re automatically invalidating your own opinion because you CLEARLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS WORKS. NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT. Not getting your pets vaccinated is crazy and mean, do everything you can to make your pets live forever because they are awesome and beautiful and deserve it, geez.

Hey Jezzies! How was your Saturday? Do anything interesting or fun, or did you have an equally good day just sitting around the house and letting the week’s crazy wash off?

I went with my family to the New York Botanical Gardens to wander around and take advantage of the nice weather, and also to see their orchid show, which was really spectacular. Here are some of the really amazing orchids they had there, which were just stunningly beautiful:

Some of them barely looked like flowers, and had wild shapes and interesting and unusual colors.

And this one, which I’ve zoomed in close-up, is a great example of how... Georgia O’Keefe-like some of the orchids can be. This should almost be labeled NSFW.

I also got a haircut, but I’m not showing that picture since we can’t delete things from here after 15 minutes :)

These are great photos. I walked the dog in the park today, where we have just a few daffodils popping up. I also went for a 3.5 mile run, because I felt I needed some endorphins and some sun.

Awesome! Yeah, we were somewhat disappointed about the daffodils too. There were whole fields of them at the Botanical Gardens where less than a quarter of the daffodils had bloomed, only a few of the breeds. But it was worth it for the orchids at the very least!

Emily has decided that this ottoman pushed against the door is the best place to be in the world. She likes the curtains because she can play “hide-and-watch-everything-nutter-does. In the morning, it has become my duty to open the curtain so she can see outside and watch the street.

She is also getting a little tubby.

Thanks to everyone from last week who had advice for me last week. I talked to my employee about some options and she decided she wanted to tell our bosses about it and just have it out in the open, which I felt was incredibly brave. The bosses offered her some serious support and promised that they would never fire her because of she had been a victim of domestic violence.

Any parent Jezzies out there that aren’t Christian but celebrate Christian holidays with their kids?

I’m an Atheist, and am pretty anti-religion to boot. However, I don’t see any issues with celebrating Santa Christmas and Easter Bunny Easter with my toddler (she’s 4 right now.) We haven’t done any Easter celebrations before this year, but somehow my daughter caught wind of the East Bunny/ eggs/ candy thing, and she’s really excited.

My dad and I got into a huge fight on Christmas Eve when he specifically went against my wishes to not talk about god/ Jesus in front of my daughter- and then called me “stupid” in front of her. He said that we shouldn’t celebate holidays if we aren’t part of that religion, and he said that I’m confusing my daughter and doing her a disservice by not explaining the meaning of the holidays to her. When she’s older we’ll have a discussion about ancient and modern religions and different people’s different beliefs, but I don’t think she needs to know about that at 4- and I think that trying to explain that to her would just confuse her more.

Anyway, I decided to get my daughter some zombie themed books/ toys/ candy to put in her easter basket and today on *her* request we made these:

We’re raising our two in a faith-free environment. The 9 year old was given a choice between an Easter basket and a new Lego. He picked the Lego.

Hey friends! Haven’t been around for awhile, partially due to life getting in the way and partially due to a growing disenchantment with the site (way too much pop culture coverage + Bernie bias lately). I’ve missed you guys though...

Here's my query for the night: where are you getting your feminist news? Jez has been less focused on the topic as of late and Feministing has put out a couple of super crazy biased political articles that turned me off of them for now. So where should I go? All suggestions welcome!

Ah, depression. Let’s just say it wasn’t a good Friday, or a good Sunday-Thursday, or a good Saturday today. Tomorrow’s plan for a lonely Easter spent with leftover pizza also doesn’t bode well.

I came home from running errands today to find a little flyer hanging from my doorknob that had a picture of a lonely looking child and, in large, dramatic type, the words “Looking for a friend?”

Low blow, local church. Low blow. Negging me will not get me to attend Easter service no matter how friendless I am.

Could use some internet hugs and good vibes rn. Recently the two people that were my closest friends basically faded me out, started treating me like a stranger and just generally stopped being my friends. I have no idea what happened and what changed but within about two weeks we went from best friends to complete strangers and it kind of sucks big time. I’ve realised that they haven’t really been good friends to me for a while now and if they were so willing to drop their supposed best friend for no reason at all then I don’t really want them in my life anyway but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t still hurt some.
I’ve never had many friends and the two of them have kind of taken our friendship group in the ‘break-up’ because none of them have talked to me for weeks. I have family I love and I’ve always been perfectly fine in my own company but inspirational stories and internet hugs would be greatly appreciated anyway. Thanks guys :)

Oof, that is hard. I have had friend breakups before and it is always really, really hard. Be good to yourself while you are going through this, it isn’t your fault. People do grow apart and it can be an opportunity to try new things and look for new people.
