I fee like that’s a pretty low integrity threshold.

“Well, it’s not like we’ve been wrong every time.”

Some of that mud has to stick to the wall, amirite?!

      Two things:

      Integrity is relative.

      Consider where you are.

It’s like that struggling little publication that disseminates total bullshit for the most part. Then, by the grace of Spaghetti Monster, they have an actual true story fall in their lap, which jumpstarts their operation. Except, the N.E. has been doing this for decades.

The reason that we don’t believe the story that Ted Cruz had multiple affairs isn’t *just* because it’s in the National Enquirer. It’s because I still can’t fathom how he got 1 woman to sleep with him. I just don’t believe there are 6 women who want to fuck Ted Cruz.

Britney Spears fucked Federline. Mila Kunis fucked home alone kid. Selena Gomez fucked Bieber. Women are not immune from poor choices by virtue of having a vagina.

“Excuse me cloneparent, Xarterb was telling me that once upon a time, humanity reproduced through a strange practice known as ‘sex’.”

“Yes, clonechild, it’s true. But we all gave it up years ago.”

    “Why?”

“Well, on March 25, 2016, we first heard the words ‘Ted Cruz sex scandal,’ and we all just sort of lost interest after that.”

I haven’t read the article because it’s not online and I’m not buying that rag, but based on the quotes I’ve read the piece seems very deliberately phrased. I haven’t seen a quote where it says, “The National Enquirer has evidence Cruz has been banging five women,” but I’ve seen a lot of phrasing that looks like, “TNE can confirm that GOP operatives are looking in to reports that Ted Cruz has been banging five women.” Which is exactly the type of careful phrasing you'd expect from a piece ghostwritten by a political attack dog.

Yeah, a number of people have pointed out that the National Enquirer has endorsed Trump and its owner is friendly with him.

Right, and the formula would be so simple. Anonymous tip to the proper people in the GOP to spur the investigation, anonymous tip to TNE about said investigation. Unless and until this video surfaces, it's a dirty trick as far as I'm concerned.

I would be curious to see The National Enquirer’s hit/miss ratio compared to more respectable venues. Maybe this recent controversy will be enough to get the guys at 538 interested in the numerical odds on check-out aisle tabloids.

Meanwhile, there is something squirrelly about the idea that the Enquirer is right often enough to make its accusations newsworthy on a noncommittal basis. It’s a more urbane version of what Fox does: I’m not saying he is having an affair, but I’m not saying he’s not. You decide.

My understanding is that Gawker accepts a certain level of irresponsibility and crassness because that’s the price of escaping disingenuousness. But this piece isn’t that. Perhaps Mr. Biddle would like to set me straight, but I’m calling bullshit.

I think there’s a certain element of sardonic commentary involved in this piece. I think it’s rather obvious that Trump is somehow behind this and that it is part of the ongoing chess match between Trump and Cruz over their respective wives. The point — at least, what I think the point is — is to gently poke fun at the kind of sleazy rhetorical bullshit that Cruz , Trump, and people like them regularly rely on. You know, the old, “I’m not saying that President Obama is a Muslim, I’m just saying that I can’t rule it out categorically since I’m not him,” or “Hmm, I’m not really sure if David Duke is a white supremacist, I’ve never met him personally”.

The part that makes me suspect it is true (from a getting sued perspective) is that they included the women’s photos. Yes, I know the pictures are blurred, but with the accompanying info you can figure out who they are easily. This is a very specific allegation involving multiple women, all of whom are identified enough to have a claim against them, it seems to me. It just seems so reckless to actually include so much info about these specific women without their being more to it than just gossip.

That is a fair point. Their necks are out an awful long way if this is all BS. Consider what Gawker got hit with for posting an actual video no one ever claimed was false.

I'm not surprised about Ted Cruz. I’m only surprised that women got close enough to smell the scent of his rotting soul and decided to have sex with him anyway.

Don’t be so sure. It sounds like in a few of those cases money was involved and Ted Cruz, doesn’t really seem like the “knock the pussy out,” type so 20k for 10 seconds seems likely.

My guess is when all the print newspapers and magazines finally give up the ghost, The Enquirer and the Penny Saver will be the only periodicals left to hold in one’s hands and read.

Usually it goes in the recycle bin immediately, but sometimes I look in there. It’s almost like a bizarro world. “For sale, 19inch RCA color TV. Works great, 75 dollars”. “Box of 100 VHS movies. 25 dollars”.
