There are multiple experiences depending where you click:

Experiences! You either work in ads, or have totally become invested in corporate messaging.

Well, 80% of the banner ad space appears to consist of a direct link to the NYT Mag story — see below. So it seems that the dominant “experience” here is to link to/promote NYT editorial content a paid advertisement for the topic of that content.

On mobile devices, Gawker pages sometimes randomly hijack your browser and try to direct it to the App Store for some dumb game. There’s an X on the full-screen ad, but if you tap it, it still forces you to the App Store. Everybody’s got a thing.

I have the same problem, and there’s nothing to be done about it other than close out the offending windows, go back to whatever article I was reading, and hope the ad doesn’t come back. Shit like that is why people have to use ad blockers.

Well, I guess it’s better than an ad that just lets you buy something when you click on it. At least this way you get to find out a little bit about what you’re buying.

Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go play music for a cat...

Personally, I don’t use ad block software, because it’s cooler not to now.

Yeah but, how’s their ratio of content to Amazon deals?

They should just go the gawker route and hide the advertising within the story instead
