Why is this site so obsessed with news that makes Israel look bad? If you tried equally hard you’d find many more egregious acts in the Palestinian Authority, under Hamas, in Turkey, Pakistan, etc, etc. Shining a light on Israeli transgressions to the exception of others can only have a goal of attempting to create a perception that this state is somehow uniquely evil. Criticizing Israel is not anti-Semitic, but the special attention given by Gawker to this one country is at least questionable. Can anyone explain? This soldier’s act has been condemned widely by Israeli leadership, while similar violence by Palestinians is lauded by their leaders. What is the motivation here?

Don’t worry, Israel does a fine job of looking bad all by themselves. No Gawker needed. Such is the luxury when you are the ‘chosen people’. Want to know where the biggest racists in the world live? Look no further than that miserable scrap of desert.

It’s disgusting. And I think it must be anti-Semitism. It must be.

Have you EVER read a story on this site about ANY of the terrorist acts committed by Hamas/Palestinians?

I firmly expect him to be disciplined for this action. After all, after you shoot them, they’re much less useful as human shields.

In fairness, this is only, like, the fifth most egregious thing an IDF soldier has done to a weaker, prone enemy in the last 12 months or so. I don’t know why you’re all getting your knickers in a twist.

You know, I recently tried to summarize the first Gulf War for a young person and it’s crazy-making. Trying to provide context for that one meant I had to go back to the Iran-Iraq War, that led back to the Iranian Revolution, and so on and so on ad infinitum. Giving historical context for any of this shit means that next thing you know you’re talking about the Ottoman Empire or fucking Nebuchadnezzar.

there’s no “values” in a war. there’s no “good”

that’s bullshit to help sell it

that IDF soldier did what soldiers do in a war and

a war in defense of something indefensible is a crime against humanity

I always brace for the hate if I call this shit out.

My take is “Charging someone with murder here is like handing out speeding tickets at the Indy 500"

I can’t honestly lay blame on a soldier for murder. It’s all semantics to me.

My dad was a vet. Cried almost every night until his own death about the people he killed.

Sending men (or women) to war is a crime in of itself and shouldn’t be taken lightly

Killing is acceptable when it is performed within the Rules of Engagement of warfare or within the laws of state. A self defense kill is a killing that was required to defend ones own life or those of others.

Sure this guy knifed someone, that makes him an idiot.. and he likely viewed the outcome of that action (if not impulsive) as the media circus it has become.

The sensitive point that can not be overshadowed by that one individuals action are this... The absence of due diligence in legal prosecution implies that the current state of lawlessness within the Country of Israel is falling apart. An out of control military should be something EVERYONE fears.. They have the biggest gun and best trained combatants..

Right, because Hamas always starts an inquiry when one of their citizens stabs an Israeli. Or... they celebrate and encourage it? To be fair, though, I count on Gawker to be outraged at the daily murder of Israelis, right? Right? <crickets>

Hamas citizens don’t stab Israelis. Hamas rules Gaza, and if you live in Gaza, you get shot for even approaching the border with Israel and definitely never come within stabbing distance of any Israelis.

Are you kidding me with this? I try to remain impartial but how do you look at an incident like this and put the blame on the soldier? THIS PALESTINIAN WAS TRYING TO KILL INNOCENT CIVILIANS. I feel like morality has been turned on its head completely.

If this incident happened in the US or any other civilized country, the soldier would be considered a hero for eliminating a killer on the loose. The double standard is staggering.
