    I wonder if this is a case where Betty White figured her estate/people were taking care of all that, and the estate/people were just shitheads.

    Someone like Betty White has a team of people who arrange and deal with this kind of thing, so either they all colluded to make this woman’s life miserable or someone just royally fucked up.

      It could also be the case that she was dismissed recently and is sufficiently pissed off to file a meritless lawsuit. It’s a little hard (though not impossible) for me to believe that a non-illegal-immigrant domestic worker would allow this to happen for decades and not know/complain/ etc.

      Before my current job I would never have even thought of the possibility of “person a is pissed off at person b, files a lawsuit just to be difficult.”

    When did the requirement become 12 consecutive hours between shifts, or does that requirement vary by state? Back in my theme park days (2012) in FL it was 8 consecutive hours between shifts which caused wonderful moments like getting off at 10pm and being scheduled the next day at 6am.

    So my only question is: did the Assistent wake up sometime mid-February, 2016, {gasp} and think, “oh no! My employer is not going to comp my overtime—nor is she going to treat me humanely and pay me appropriately! THAT’S IT! I was on the fence for 21 years, but now I’m SURE she’s not going to suddenly snap to and get with the program! Overworked/Underpaid Assistent, OUT.”

      Or she was fired, or she got burned out, or, since Betty’s getting pretty damn old, the fun stuff she used to get (clothes, gift bags, travel) weren’t happening anymore, or, maybe, just maybe, she didn’t realize that the laws had changed and she had rights she didn’t know about.

    I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a case of Betty’s people not taking care of things or of a disgruntled, recently fired employee acting out.

    Or Betty White could be secretly evil.

    I’m fine with any of those scenarios. I’m team Betty no matter what.

      I’m thinking that on March 11 there was an incident and the caretaker was let go. Then, pissed off, she remembered 22 years of poor treatment and decided to file a lawsuit.
