I don’t buy it. Unless LSD has changed tremendously in the last 20 years, violence and acid don’t really go together. I was always too busy having really intense conversations and laughing. Paranoia didn’t factor in as it might with MJ.

Now this fellow might have had underlying rage/paranoia issues, but blaming the LSD is BS.

Getting lost in a cornfield? Sure. Existential crisis in the bathroom mirror? Ya, that happens. Beating someone to death with your bare hands? Na, that’s some underlying shit.

Yes, this is what I was thinking. I don’t even think I could be active enough to choke or kick someone if I was on LSD.

Taking LSD off of my “Yeah, I’d Try It” list.

It could have been more than the LSD. Or it might not have been real LSD. I’ve never had a bad trip so I can’t say with 100% certainty but I have done a fair ammount in one sitting(at a festival) and used it a handful of other times. before and I was still mentally aware the entire time each time.

I’ve taken enough LSD to make an elephant fly, and I’ve never experienced or even heard of the drug causing violence.

Nope. Even though I’ve thought about it, this is exactly why I’m never going to try LSD.

No, because I can control alcohol. Not to say I could drive a car or something, but I can control my feelings and emotional reactions. I’ve never been an angry drunk, or had it affect me mentally.

LSD seems like it’s too variable. And stuff like this kinda sorta proves that a person like me might not take kindly to it. I don’t think I would kill someone, but I could see it really making me paranoid or depressed.

Article says they took LSD Saturday afternoon, beating happened Sunday afternoon. To the drug experts here: does an LSD high last 24 freaking hours????

It lasts a loooong fucking time, but not 24 hours. This guy either took something other than LSD or was already psychotic and violent. LSD doesn’t do that.

Not unless you took a fuckton. There is a coming down period in which you’re a little fragile and not feeling awesome. But as everyone else is saying, it’s more likely that he had some underlying mental issue. Schizophrenia, etc, are usually detected around this age and drugs can exacerbate the underlying unhealthy psyche. That why I don't take psychedelics, because I have anxiety and it just turns it up to terror.

I can’t be 100% certain, but I’ve been an EMT for a while and it sounds like they either got something laced with PCP - from the paranoia and violence- or he is outright lying. Given the circumstances I’m leaning more towards PCP.

Right? I immediately assumed he’d planned to kill her and decided to use the LSD as an excuse.

This is hitting way too close to home, literally and figuratively. My heart breaks for this poor girl’s family and friends.

I wonder if the LSD was laced with something. That is not normally how one behaves while tripping.

I think it must have been. That is not LSD behavior. Even on a bad trip, violence isn't really how anyone reacts. Hiding under sheets and whimpering is usually how that goes. Unless this guy just has incredibly bizarre brain chemistry, there was something in that hit other than LSD.

especially considering he got violent 24 hours after taking whatever it was that he took. i’m not aware of any drug that has strong effects lasting that long.

Yup. Not surprising. There is a subgroup of young adults my age (I’m 22) who use and abuse LSD, thinking it has no consequences on their brain function. Last year, I witnessed this happened to a former friend of mine. The guy almost jumped off the roof, punched my friend’s then girlfriend, and trashed the house. It took a while to recover from the psychological damage.

His incredibly rich father, though, gave us hush money. We spent it on expensive as fuck tapas!

Is it reported as she passively “dying” because it was a consequence from the injuries? Or why is not not considered murder even when “the case is now being investigated as a homicide”? I’m confused about the terminology used and wonder if it’s because of some legal reason.

Homicide means the death of a human by another human, murder is a form of homicide. They are investigating so they can charge him with the correct form of homicide.

My question was, why is the passive “a student died” used. I haven’t seen this discussion in English and I know sometimes there are legal reasons to act with caution before using strong words like homicide. But in Spanish (at least in Spain, Argentina and Mexico) it’s pretty common for newspapers and even supporters of women to say “A woman died. His boyfriend used gasoline for the fire” or “The dead women of Juarez”, making killers and violent men disappear from the story. So, I was wondering if something like that was happening with this headline, or if there was a legal reason to say “a UW student died” instead of “A UW student killed his girlfriend.”

As a mostly supporter of drug use it’s really sad to see the number of “No way this was pure LSD” comments. Yes it could be. And it wouldn’t really be that surprising. LSD is relatively safe especially compared to other drugs. But people can still react badly even if they were not mentally ill beforehand. Even the safest medications have potential side effects and can be dangerous to a very small percentage of the population.

Except we have plenty of documentation of people suffering psychosis longer than 24 hours after taking LSD.

Symptomatically, these patients present with a wide variety of symptoms, belying the great variety of their premorbid features 120. Formal thought disorder, hallucinations, illusions, violence, paranoid and other delusions, depression, regression, emotional lability, bizarre behavior, insomnia, hypomania, depersonali zation, dissociative states 43, confusion, and apathy can be seen
