This guy is the worst. The damage he has caused to countless children and their families, and the zero shame he has. Just ugh.

Also, pediatricians know a ton about child health and disease and treatment; but for critical review of the literature, talk to an epidemiologist.

do you think he GETS it? do you think he understands the harm? and if so, does he just not give a fuck (making him evil as fuck)? or if he DOESN’T get it, does he just believe his own “science”?

i can’t decide which is worse...

Honestly I go back and forth on that. I think it’s possible he knowingly falsified results from the get-go (see: financial interests in his results, developing a competing vaccine), but I think it’s equally possible he saw a hint of something “exciting” and confirmation bias and poor study methods did the rest. Either way, in the years since, he’s doubled down because facing the truth of what he did would be too devastating.

Besides the seeming complete lack of evidence, has anyone ever explained *why* the CDC would be so interested in covering something like this up? Is it just a vague ‘evil corporations’ answer or what?

Oh my god I hope they can stop this from happening. My nephew is autistic and members of my family grasp at straws looking for reasons and vaccines always come up. “It changed him”, they say. Now they don’t want to vaccinate anymore and it’s harmful to kids who CAN’T be vaccinated and there’s no amount of actual science I can show them that will make them feel otherwise because OF THIS ASSHOLE

Oh this breaks my heart. Why does there need to be a ‘reason’ or cause? Can’t they just love him and cherish him? Being autistic doesn’t make him less human :(

Because people want to believe it isn’t their fault, even though it’s NOBODY’S fault? They don’t want to think it might be genetic or something because then they’d feel they’re to blame. That’s my theory, anyway.

Schuman also defended the science behind the film: “It’s been vetted. In this film the science is presented and supported.”

    Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe.

So by cover-up I assume they mean how Wakefield hid the fact that he was paid to perform the study by lawyers suing vaccine companies. Oh and the fact that he covered up the actual results of the study.

By catastrophe, I assume he means the loss of life that resulted from his irresponsible, unethical, and cartoon villain-esque practices.

    V honest title if so.

He also gave kids probably medically unnecessary spinal taps and colonoscopies for his bullshit study, because if you’re going to be an unethical jackass, you might as well go that extra mile.

Does anyone else have that friend who- by all accounts- is totally normal and fun. Then they post something out of left field on Facebook and you are stunned? Because that just happened to me with a friend posting about this movie. Blew. My. Mind.

Yes. And now I am trying to figure out how I can ask my short list of questions that I need answers to before allowing my children to visit people’s homes (1a. Do you have guns in your house? 1b. How are they secured? 2. Is your child vaccinated?) without offending the ones who are normal and fun.

But that might not kill him... Even if it did kill him that would make him a martyr. He needs to die of a vaccination-preventable illness.

He’s not stupid at all. I would venture to say this has made him a millionaire. He makes tons of money giving talks, selling books pumping snake oil products. Think about that one. He is making money off the death and disease other people get because of him.

    Immunologist here.

I won’t go into my opinion of Wakefield, Jenny McCarthy, anti-vaxx nutters or scientifically ignorant people in general, because I would say some extremely unladylike things.

However, I will be interested to see which celebrities support this stupid thing, since that will provide a quick and convenient list of celebrities whose work I can no longer support.

So psychologists are “top scientists” now? Cool.

Cover-Up refers to the CDC scientist, Dr Thompson, who led the CDC study that claimed the MMR vaccine did not cause autism, who has now confessed that the CDC rigged the study and the study did show the MMR caused autism. I wish people would do a little research before making such harsh statements about the movie or Andrew Wakefield. You should also know that this scientist has apologized to Wakefield for publishing this fraudulent study that was used to make Wakefield’s study appear fraudulent and for injuring all the children who were vaccinated and are now autistic due the CDC publishing a study that said the MMR did not cause autism. This scientist realizes how many children have been harmed and is very ashamed of his part in publishing that study. Thompson said specifically: “I have great shame now when I meet families with kids with autism because I have been part of the problem.”

That’s not a very accurate description of what happened. It’s especially inaccurate to claim Thompson now says vaccines cause autism. But why listen to me; why not read Thompson’s own statement?

The fact that we found a strong statistically significant finding among black males does not mean that there was a true association between the MMR vaccine and autism-like features in this subpopulation.

But the unfortunate thing about conspiracy theories is, any evidence that contradicts them can be waved away as being “part of the conspiracy.”
