I’m a total Bernie (and soon Hillary) libtard and think Trump is evil incarnate like everyone else, but at some point we have to admit we’re doing little more than trying to goat his supporters into becoming violent when we protest and purposely disrupt INSIDE his rallies. He must be stopped, absolutely, but let’s do it the right way. Otherwise I think we are not making much progress against him, but rather causing the unintended consequence of further cementing their (his supporters’) feelings that Trump is the right side to be on.

I know it’s not that way and there’s nothing we could possibly do to make him a sympathetic figure. I know he’s still 21st century Hitler no matter what we do. But I really don’t see the net positive in this exercise. Protest loud and proud outside and on the airwaves and the Internet, but stop putting yourselves in danger and testing the patience of people that are clearly paranoid and desperate in their own right (otherwise they wouldn’t be supporting this monster). We don’t need further evidence of how disturbed and prejudiced they are. And to further bring their disturbing behavior out will not change them for the better.

To continue to do this and support it would not only invite more violence from people we are ALREADY AWARE are easily capable of it, but it gives a legitimate rallying cry for Trumpets who (sorta justly) are beginning to argue that it’s an attempt to infringe on their right to express their (mind-numbingly wrong) opinions.

A lot of people have spoken lately that it’s getting to the point where a protestor soon might die and while maybe I’m alone on this, I think that is something we should make every attempt to stop from occurring.

I also don’t understand the point of protesting inside his rallies. Everyone knows that not all Americans are behind him and this just calls attention to him and makes him more popular with his idiotic supporters.

Trump’s racist demagoguery is going to spark violent protest. There is no way around that. It creates too much fear and too much anger for it not to occur.

Trump has a responsibility to call for civility here but he doesn’t do it. He eggs them on.

Whether it is violence perpetrated people who support him or hate him, it is Trump who has made the space for it to occur in.

There are people who are going to come to his rallies now just to incite violence. Just to cause chaos. He allows it to flourish.

I appreciate your sentiment here but Trump is the one who needs to stop this.

If you hold a rally and protesters show up wearing Klan hoods and waving the Confederate flag, your right to free speech has not been infringed upon.

If you show up to a rally wearing a Klan hood and waving the Confederate flag to show your displeasure for the speaker and someone beats you, your right to free speech has been infringed upon.

Donald Trump doesn’t like the protesters’ message? He is offended by it?

    TOUGH SHIT!

Speech and conduct, even that calculated to offend, is Constitutionally protected under the First Amendment. See Snyder v. Phelps.

Being disruptive and obnoxious to the point of provoking violence shows that some “free thinking” leftwing people are actually as narrow minded as those they call “bigots”.

The First Amendment doesn’t exist to protect puppies and rainbows and daffodils and greeting card poems. Nobody is going to be offended by your love of beagles or you talking about how daffodils mean spring.

The First Amendment exists to protect unpleasant speech. It exists to protect the flag burners and the communist agitators and the racists and the people who yell, “FUCK THE POLICE!”

That is the speech that needs protecting. That is the essence of the First Amendment.

But don’t take my word for it.

Read Chief Justice John Roberts' majority opinion in Snyder v. Phelps.

Trump rallies are now essentially places of ritualized violence. You come to them expecting altercations. It is part of the show. His inflammatory populist rhetoric has always been stoking violent temperaments on both sides. This was the logical outcome. Moreover, he refuses to be a voice of reason and show true leadership. Instead he condones and excuses his supporters in their aggressive behavior towards the protesters and is actively creating a space for all this to occur. The narrative is that the protesters are “bad people” and “professional agitators” who deserve to be stomped down.

This is not accidental. This is the Morton Downey Jr. of presidential politics. Trump is fed largely by the violent hostilities of the ignorant and disenfranchised. He is their ugly avatar and he better hope he doesn’t get anyone killed in the process of using them for his cynical power grab.

You should watch the doc on Downey. The difference is he didn’t believe the shot he said but trump does.

I did see that doc and it was very illuminating regarding this type of right-wing populist agitation both men are and were so skilled at provoking for their own gain.

Morton Downey Jr., were he still alive, could have easily filled the space Trump inhabits today.

The thing is we don’t know exactly what Trump believes. The only thing we do know for sure is he is a narcissist megalomaniac who craves attention, esteem, and power over anything else. His core value set is very dubious as it is with all con men.

“And they’re not really protesters, they’re agitators. And if [Maricopa County] Sheriff Joe [Arpaio] was here, they’d be in jail already. I want to tell you that. They’d be in jail a long time ago.”

Of course he loves Arpaio. Of course.

I’m not saying it’s a conspiracy, but it’s very convenient that this protestor was attacked by this person who has obviously been cucked. Makes all Trump supporters seem like cuckservatives. I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy was working for the RNC.

This time, it was an African-American Trump supporter beating a white protester. So, of course, this time, he was immediately ‘cuffed, arrested and charged... Learn your lesson here, being black trumps even being a Trump supporter.

I can see why a black guy might be offended by someone comparing him to the klan. I don’t support his violence and I do support the protesters but I get it.

The Pettways are descended from slaves belonging to a slaveholder (named Pettway) who settled in Gee’s Bend, Alabama. They are famous for their quilts which I think were used to raise funds during the civil rights movement.

My great great grandmother married into the family. I think that it was her second or third husband, so I have relatives who are Pettway’s. This applies to my cousins only: The older are third & fourth generation freemen are generally very religious and very conservative..The kind of religious that doesn’t go for dancing and drinking. They certainly don’t go for protesting tom foolery because god is the one to sort that shit out. They tend to be Republican for the same reason.

You’re welcome! I learned about them when I started researching my families genealogy. My great great grandmother was married 4 times, and the Pettway family was the easiest line to research.
