Hey, I had Palmer chocolate in my Easter basket as a tot. Thanks to the yuppies (one of which I might be) now I can buy better chocolate out there in any ordinary grocery or drugstore.

It’s not enough to make me go to church, but it’s enough to make me celebrate Easter.

Tyler Perry’s ‘Christianity’ starring Tyler Perry.

I just don’t trust him to tell any story very well. And when I read that Tricia Yearwood is playing Mary... :/

Anyone got any hot tips for surviving a short-term long distance relationship? My partner and I have been together for 3 years and he’s heading to another country to work for 5 months. The time difference is TERRIBLE (seriously, he could not have chosen a worse place to go to in this regard!) and so conversation will be fairly limited to mainly the weekend as we both have jobs that aren’t flexible with calls during the day. Would love all stories, advice and commiserations!

Hi! My husband and I were LD for almost three years, 1.5 of which either he or I were deployed on the boat (so no phone, no skype, only email unless we were in port.) it was shitty; there’s no other ways describe it. You honestly both have to be on the same page and have the same dedication and expectations for each other. I found that I could email his cell and have a decent conversation for an hour or so. I’d try to do one long email a day to mimic spending the evening together. It gets monotonous that’s for sure.

If you and he have the money I recommend trying to see each other every other month. Or whatever timing works for you. I know some that have done every month, every other month, or even once a year. Also try to find places in between you that you both want to visit to cut down on travel time.

I’ve done it several times, twice for longer than you will be apart. It sucks, but with a finite horizon you’ll get through it.

Set a time to talk every day. If the time difference is really optimally bad, this might mean one of you getting up early or staying up late, but it’s only for a few months and it’s important.

Write to each other. Email is fine, but actual letters are even better. Every time you get something from the other person (like a letter) it’s a nice little boost.

After three years, you are probably used to spending a lot of time together. You will get lonely, and this is normal. Use the extra time to find some new friends or spend time with ones you haven’t seen enough lately.

Try to do something interesting every day that you can share when you call. Your conversation habits are likely going to have to change since they’ll be denser and shorter, so you want to have something to start out talking about right away.

I agree with HotMess about trying to see each other as often as possible, but this may be less important for only 5 months.

I just tuned in, but did I just see Chris Daughtry as Judas sing an Evanescence song in a warehouse, followed by Jesus singing a Train song? If I weren’t already an atheist, this would be the turning point for me.

No no no you can’t go to the quarter and get a frozen daiquiri! If you want to do the ‘tourist makes a drunken fool of themselves in the quarter’ thing right, you have to start with the hurricanes and then move on to the grenades.

Ugh. My husband made me take him and my dad to get grenades on our recent visit. Those were only acceptable when I was 18. Gross.

Long live drive thru daiquiri shops (specifically the one at the corner of St Charles and Carrollton.)

I’m coveting a daiquiri like one might covet one’s neighbor’s wife! But alas, I’m drinking a Colette beer at the moment, and behold, it is delicious.

Wouldn’t mind a daiquiri either, but happy enough here as is, too. I’m having prosecco (as usual) and it is delicious (as usual). Also I am NOT watching this.

I too am not watching this. Technically, I’m “watching” my boyfriend’s archlinux go through updates. It’s a lot of letters and numbers. Exciting night ahead for us!

You just paste the tweet’s URL into your post and Kinja does the rest. Same as with YouTube vids. I don’t know who these guys are so I regret to say I’m missing the joke, but anyway that info may be useful in future!
