Its probably something she picked up by reading about those anti vaxx whack jobs who killed their kid up in Canada by giving him maple syrup for meningitis

Also is Bobby going to review her recipes?

Then why the fuck is she recommending it by disseminating the recipe? Seriously, can she be arsed to look up “disingenuous”?

I saw the People headline and refused to open the article. I knew it was going to be a bullshit thing and it’s dangerous that they are promoting it.

Their anti-vax stance KILLS ME. Jay Cutler is a goddamned type 1 diabetic (I am the daughter of one) and you’d think that he’d be...IDK...smarter about this stuff. The miracle of modern medicine is allowing him to stay alive and play fucking football. I mean 30 years ago, I’d bet it would be really hard for a T1D person to play such an intense sport and stay on top of their disease. In my childhood it was sometimes hard for my dad to stay on top of his in day to day life just because the science wasn’t as exacting as it is now. (And low blood sugar spells (we called them ‘reactions’) are fucking terrifying.) So why not trust the vaccinating your kids is safe and WILL KEEP THEM ALIVE?! I know...I’m asking a lot.

I want to knock both their heads together for this shit.

Thank you for pointing that out! I had no idea he had type 1 diabetes.

I stop people mid sentence when they try to tell me their anti science, anti modern medicine bullshit.

I have had severe asthma since birth, I was born premature and had to be incubated in the NICU for 3 weeks. Modern medicine has kept me alive thanks to science so whatever anti-medicine spiel leaves your mouth, I don’t care to hear. No, salt rooms and essential oils aren’t just as good as albuterol inhalers and advair so seriously stfu and gtfo.

People with serious health issues seem like they can go either way. Like you, they can understand how much “science” there is in medicine, and that this generally extends across most medical recommendations. Others can completely compartmentalize the scientific miracles that have kept them alive, and focus on the fact that the science has not developed a cure, and look towards woo to give them the “real answers”

The only goat’s milk I will be giving an infant will be the type that comes from my favorite type of goat*. But yeah, this is stupid.

*My goat is a keurig baby formula maker. It also won’t eat shoelaces or break out of any enclosure imaginable.

I had to do a double take at the Keurig Baby formula maker. Ehh, that’s too much work (or at least it was when the twins were infants).

That was incredibly irresponsible of People to even mention. Some woman on a mommy board I’m on was recommending Goat’s Milk as a breastmilk supplement—because formula was too full of chemicals and was potentially dangerous. WUT?! These people need to be stopped!

PS: I did call her out on this, as respectfully as I could.

My breastfeeding support group (mostly Facebook with some in-person meetings) is always dissing women who switch to or supplement with cow’s milk at 12 months. They push goat’s milk (or camel milk) or alternative milks but mostly just keep breastfeeding. Luckily, my 15 month old LOVES cow’s milk but I don’t share that with the group. I didn’t fully stop pumping until last month but now I don’t nurse her anymore either because I’m pregnant and the nipple sensitivity was killing me. I’m actually a little icked out by the 4,5,and 6 year olds that still nurse but they’re so nice that I can’t stop following.

Are these actual dangers for goats milk or is it RAW goats milk that is the issue? I mean, aside from the same reasons for not having cows milk before one?

But yea, don't make your own formula. Babies don't need maple syrup in their milk.

I think it’s the using of it as a complete replacement for regular formula that’s the biggest issue. I know my baby brother got the occasional bottle of goat’s milk when he was 6-12 months and our mother was working a night shift. Raw goat’s milk, too, which of course has its own risks.

I think that raw has it’s own problems (whether goat or cow), but in general they seemed to be talking about people who use just goat’s milk as a substitute for formula, which lacks a lot of the necessary nutrients.

I’m surprised she’s not breast feeding with all her all natural stuff. I mean, that’s about as natural as you get.

Maybe it’s because she herself was vaccinated and she thinks it will taint her child with all that icky pharmaceutical stuff.

Maybe she’s just a wino and doesn’t want to pump and dump.

    Or maybe she's just stupid.

She probably is, but uses the formula as a supplement. Some people do both (I did—supply issues.)
