Wow. Sounds like every restaurant I ever worked in (usually as the lone female chef).

Which is why it's great someone thought to actually pursue it! Get some change up in here!

In addition, CHEF MAIETTA regularly (and as recently as February 2016) used words like “gay”, “faggot”,“pussy”, “retard”, “asshole”, “Mexicans”, and “whores” while on shift at COQUETA.

Agreed, many of these words are not appropriate. But “Mexicans” is just a word for people from Mexico....

However, like the word “Jews,” it can be a perfectly ordinary term OR an offensive slur, depending on context.

Right. That is obviously not a slur, although I suppose the idea here is that it was used as such.

Wouldn’t it be faster at this point to just list chefs that haven’t been accused of assault and/or harassment?

This dicksmack sounds like the type who proudly thinks of himself as “un-PC” and “it’s okay if you insult everybody equally! It’s part of my charm!”

customers had left “snail trails” in their seats after speaking to CHEF CHIARELLO, implying that the women became sexually aroused after talking to CHEF CHIARELLO and left wet stains from their genitals on their chairs.

civil complaints are the goddamn best

I watched him on Top Chef Masters, he came across as slimy and fake, so not surprised.

Came to say exactly this. I have a visceral reaction anytime I see him yet the powers are Bravo stay up on his jock. When he was shown at Fleur de Lys during a very recent Top Chef episode I literally muttered “shut up” when he was on-screen.

Yes! And the fact that no where in his response did he ever deny any of the actions for which he's being sued.

Yeah, they hit on all the buzzwords. I also found it very odd that the first sentence did not include the words “vehemently deny,” but they did let us know that the defendant was “upset.” In fact, the denial didn’t get in there until the very last sentence, after he’d already used all of the buzzwords AND after complaining that they didn’t get a copy first. Like, seriously, it seems like they are more concerned that it got to the media than they are about the actual claims. It’s not even a very strong denial. Some intern in the PR firm wrote that, everyone’s eyes say it, and then right before it got released, someone was like “oh shit, we should probably add something in about how we deny this, right?”

Chefs are the worst. I worked in small highend kitchens as a line cook for years and the amount of verbal abuse I received would shock a lot of people. What’s worse is that I was under payed for my troubles. I’ve literally had silverware thrown at me while on the job and was expected to view that treatment as normal in a restaurant. I had to break up near fist fights between my Head Chef and our servers. Oh yeah, and lots of sexual harassment.

I’m sad that when I read this I was like ‘oh, that’s all’ because this type of work environment should be unacceptable.

I watched his show a few times on Food TV and he just left me feeling like I needed a shower. Like he was undressing me through the television. So, I’m like...not surprised?
